Lab: Configuring Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) Unified
Messaging
During this lab, you will configure Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) Unified Messaging (UM).
The Unified Messaging component of Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) is the designed to be a
voice mail solution. What it means is that anyone can dial the Unified Messaging server and
leave a voice mail which will then be delivered to that user's Outlook inbox.
Estimated time to complete this lab: 45 minutes

What You Will Learn


After completing the exercises you will be able to:

 Configure Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) Unified Messaging.

 Experience the features of Unified Messaging.

Exercise 0: Preparing the Lab Environment
In this exercise you will prepare the lab environment by starting the necessary virtual
machines using the Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V Manager.

Scenario
This lab uses Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) Ignite Set A, which consists of the following
virtual machines:

 Set A-DC01 - Domain Controller, DNS, CA with 1024 MB of memory.


 Set A-EX2010 - Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) with 1536 MB of memory.
 Set A-OCS-SE – OCS 2007 R2 Standard Edition Server with 1536 MB of memory.
 Set A-OCS-MED – OCS 2007 R2 Mediation server with 1024 MB of memory.
 Set A-Client01 – WS2008 - Vista Experience with 1024 MB of memory.
You will need to apply the Lab 5 Start snapshot for each of the virtual machines listed
above.

Tasks
1. Start and log on to the Set A-DC01 virtual machine.
a. On the host computer, click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then
click Hyper-V Manager.
b. In Hyper-V Manager, under Virtual Machines, Set A-DC01.
c. Under Snapshots right-click the Lab 5 Start snapshot for Set A-DC01 and
then click Apply.
d. Repeat steps b. and c. for each Set A Virtual Machine.
e. Under Snapshots, verify Now is below the Lab 5 Start snapshot for each Set
A Virtual Machine.
f. Under Virtual Machines, right-click Set A-DC01 and then click Start.
g. Right-click Set A-DC01 again and then click Connect.
Wait for this Virtual Machine to fully start up before continuing.
h. On the Set A-DC1 Virtual Machine Connection, click the Ctrl-Alt-Delete
button on the tool-bar.
i. Log on to the nwtraders domain as administrator with a password of
pass@word1
j. Do not start any other virtual computers until this server is completely up.

Click OK to any prompts regarding any services that fail to start, and then review
Services to verify that all have started successfully.
Important:

2. Start and log on to the Set A-EX2010 virtual machine.


a. In Hyper-V Manager, under Virtual Machines, right-click Set A-EX2010 and
then click Start.
b. Right-click Set A-EX2010 again and then click Connect.
Wait for this Virtual Machine to fully start up before continuing.
c. On the Set A-EX2010 Virtual Machine Connection, click the Ctrl-Alt-Delete
button on the tool-bar.
d. Log on to the nwtraders domain as administrator with a password of
pass@word1

Click OK to any prompts regarding any services that fail to start, and then review Services to
verify that all have started successfully. Most noticeably, check the Exchange services.

c. On the Set A-OCS-SE Virtual Machine Connection, click the Ctrl-Alt-
Delete button on the tool-bar.
d. Log on to the nwtraders domain as administrator with a password of
pass@word1

Click OK to any prompts regarding any services that fail to start, and then review Services to
verify that all have started successfully. Most noticeably, check the OCS 2007 R2 services.

5. Start and log on to the Set A-Client01 virtual machine.
a. In Hyper-V Manager, under Virtual Machines, right-click Set A-Client01
and then click Start.
b. Right-click Set A-Client01 again and then click Connect.
Wait for this Virtual Machine to fully start up before continuing.
c. On the Set A-Client01 Virtual Machine Connection, click the Ctrl-Alt-
Delete button on the tool-bar.
d. Log on to the nwtraders domain as Holly with a password of pass@word1

Exercise 1: Configuring Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) Unified
Messaging
In this exercise, you will configure Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) Unified Messaging using the
Exchange Management Console and the Exchange Management Shell. The Unified
Messaging Server role has already been installed, but not configured.

Scenario
Northwind Traders has made a decision to build on their investment in Exchange Server
2010 (Beta) by configuring the Unified Messaging Server role. The UM server role has been
pre-installed to save time.
You currently have Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) installed in your organization. In this
exercise, you will perform the following tasks:

 Create UM Dial Plan


 Create UM IP Gateway
 Create a UM Hunt Group
 Edit the default mailbox policy
 Create UM Auto Attendant
 Associate Dial Plan to UM Server
 Enable Users For Unified Messaging

Tasks
1. On EX2010, create a new Unified Messaging dial plan.
a. On Ex2010, click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange
Server 2010 and then click Exchange Management Console.
b. In the Exchange Management Console, in the Navigation pane, expand
Microsoft Exchange On-Premise, expand Organization Configuration,
and then click Unified Messaging.
c. If you get a Microsoft Exchange licensing prompt, click OK.
d. In the Actions pane, click New UM Dial Plan.
e. On the New UM Dial Plan wizard, on the New UM Dial Plan page, in the
Name field, type UM Test Phone Dial Plan
f. Leave the Number of digits in extension numbers field as the default of 5.
g. In the URI Type drop-down menu, select Telephone Extension.
h. In the VoIP security drop-down menu select Unsecured and then click
New.

i. On the Completion page, click Finish.
2. On EX2010, create a new UM IP Gateway.
a. On Ex2010, in the Exchange Management Console, in the Actions pane, click
New UM IP Gateway.
b. On the New UM IP Gateway wizard, on the New UM IP Gateway page, in the
Name field, type UM Test Phone
c. In the IP Address field, type 10.0.1.99
This is the IP address of the host computer where the UM test phone will
run.
d. Next to Dial plan, click Browse.
e. On the Select Dial Plan page, click UM Test Phone Dial Plan and then click
OK.
f. Back on the New UM IP Gateway page, click New.
g. On the Completion page, click Finish.
3. On EX2010, create a new UM Hunt Group.
a. On Ex2010, in the Exchange Management Console, on the UM IP Gateways
tab, in the Actions pane under UM Test Phone, click New UM Hunt
Group.
b. On the New UM Hunt Group wizard, on the New UM Hunt Group page, in
the Name field, type UM Test Phone Hunt Group
c. Next to Dial plan, click Browse.
d. On the Select Dial Plan page, click UM Test Phone Dial Plan and then click
OK.
e. Back on the New UM Hunt Group page, in the Pilot Identifier field, type
50000 and then click New.
f. On the Completion page, click Finish.
4. On EX2010, edit the default UM Mailbox Policy.
a. On Ex2010, in the Exchange Management Console, click the UM Mailbox
Policies tab.
b. In the Details pane, right-click UM Test Phone Dial Plan Default Policy
and then click Properties.
c. On the UM Test Phone Dial Plan Default Policy Properties page, click the
Protected Voice Mail tab.

d. In the Protect voice messages from unauthenticated callers drop-down
list, select Private.
e. In the Protect voice messages from authenticated callers drop-down
list, select Private.
f. In the Specify the text to display to voice mail recipients who have e-
mail clients that do not support rights management dialog box, type
Your e-mail client does not support rights management. Protected
voice mail will not be available to you. and then click OK.
5. On EX2010, create a new Auto Attendant.
a. On Ex2010, in the Exchange Management Console, in the Actions pane, click
New UM Auto Attendant.
b. On the New UM Auto Attendant wizard, on the New UM Auto Attendant
page, in the Name field, type UM Test Phone AA
c. Next to Select associated dial plan, click Browse.
d. On the Select Dial Plan page, click UM Test Phone Dial Plan and then click
OK.
e. In the Extension numbers field, type 50001 and then click Add.
f. Select the Create auto attendant as enabled and Create auto attendant
as speech-enabled check boxes and then click New.
g. On the Completion page, click Finish.
6. On EX2010, associate the UM Server with the UM Dial Plan.
a. On Ex2010, in the Exchange Management Console, expand Server
Configuration and then click Unified Messaging.
b. In the Details pane, right click EX2010 and then click Properties.
c. On the EX2010 Properties page, click the UM Settings tab.
d. Under Associated Dial Plans, click Add.
e. On the Select Dial Plan page, click UM Test Phone Dial Plan and then click
OK.
f. On the EX2010 Properties page, click OK.
7. On EX2010, enable users for Unified Messaging.
a. On Ex2010, in the Exchange Management Console, expand Recipient
Configuration and then click Mailbox.
b. In the Details pane, click Holly Holt and then in the Actions pane under
Holly Holt, click Enable Unified Messaging.

c. On the Enable Unified Messaging wizard, on the Introduction page, next to
the Unified Messaging Mailbox Policy, click Browse.
d. On the Select UM Mailbox Policy page, click UM Test Phone Dial Plan
Default Policy and then click OK.
e. Under PIN Settings, select Manually specify PIN and then in the field type
425206
f. Select the Require user to reset PIN at first telephone logon and then
click Next.
g. On the Extension Configuration page, select Manually entered mailbox
extension and then in the data field verify 50563 is entered and then click
Next.
h. On the Enable Unified Messaging page, click Enable.
i. On the Completion page, click Finish.
j. Repeat steps a through i for Spencer Low:
1. Spencer Low
i. Extension: 50801
k. Leave the Exchange Management Console running.

Exercise 2: Validate Unified Messaging Functionality
In this exercise, you will now validate the Unified Messaging functionality you just
configured. You will first install and configure the new Unified Messaging Test Phone on
host computer. Then you will make a series of phone calls to validate Unified Messaging.

Scenario
With Unified Messaging installed and configured, and users enabled, Northwind Traders is
ready for users to begin using Unified Messaging. In this exercise, you will call the Exchange
Auto Attendant, configure personal settings, test Outlook Voice Access, and experience
some of the new features like Call Answering rules and Protected Voice Mail.

Tasks
1. Install the Unified Messaging test phone on the host computer.
a. On the host computer, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories
and then click Windows Explorer.
b. In Windows Explorer, navigate to \\EX2010\LabFiles.
c. At the Connect to EX2010 prompt, in the User name field type
nwtraders\administrator
d. In the Password field, type pass@word1 and then click OK.
e. Copy the UMTestPhone folder to the C drive on the host computer.
f. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\UMTestPhone, right-click
ExchangeUMTestPhone.exe, click Send To and then click Desktop
(create shortcut).
g. Close Windows Explorer.
2. Configure the voice mail settings for Spencer Low.
a. On the host computer, double-click the ExchangeUMTestPhone shortcut
on the desktop.
b. If you get a warning about multiple network adapters, click OK.
c. In the Exchange UM Test Phone, click Tools and then click Setup.
d. On the Setup page, in the Server Address field, type 10.0.1.20
This is the Exchange Server 2010 (Beta) server.
e. In the Pilot Identifier field, type 50000.
This is the Pilot Identifier of the UM Test Phone Hunt Group.
f. In the Caller ID field, type 50801.

This is Spencer Low’s extension and simulates him calling Outlook Voice
Access.
g. Unselect the Diversion field.
h. Under Call security settings, verify Unsecured is selected and then click
OK.
This matches the configured security settings for the dial plan.

i. On the Exchange UM Test Phone click the Call button.


j. When prompted for the PIN, click 425206# on the dial pad.
k. Listen to the Exchange Auto Attendant and then follow the prompts to:
i. Configure a new PIN.
ii. Record Spencer Low’s name.
iii. Configure a personal greeting.
iv. Listen to Spencer’s voice mail, calendar, and e-mail.

l. End the call by clicking the End Call button.


3. Leave a voice mail for Holly Holt.
a. On the host computer, in the Exchange UM Test Phone, click Tools and
then click Setup.
b. Select the Diversion check box, in the Number field type 50563 and then
click OK.
This makes the call go to Holly Holt.

c. On the Exchange UM Test Phone click the Call button.


d. Listen to the default greeting and leave a message for Holly.
e. Follow the prompts to mark the voice message with High Importance.

f. End the call by clicking the End Call button.

4. View the voice mail for Holly Holt.
a. On Client01, click Start and then click E-mail Microsoft Office Outlook.
b. Open the Welcome to Exchange Unified Messaging and view the
information provided.
c. Close this message.
d. Open the Voice Mail from Spencer Low message.
e. Notice the message is marked with High Importance.
f. In the body of the message, notice Exchange Unified Messaging has used
speech recognition and shows what was said in the voice message.
g. Click Play on Phone.
h. At the login prompt, in the User name field type [email protected]
and in the Password field type pass@word1
i. Select the Remember password check box and then click OK.
j. In the Play on Phone box, notice you could enter a phone number to have
Exchange Unified Messaging call and then play the voice message.
k. Close the Play on Phone box.
l. Close the Voice Mail from Spencer Low message.
5. Use Outlook Voice Access as Holly Holt.
a. On the host computer, in the Exchange UM Test Phone, click Tools and
then click Setup.
b. In the Caller ID field, type 50563
This configures the caller as Holly.
c. Unselect the Diversion check box and then click OK.

d. On the Exchange UM Test Phone click the Call button.


e. At the prompt, type 425206#.
f. Go through the prompts to reset Holly’s PIN and her voice mail box.
g. When finished resetting her PIN, say Voice Mail to listen to the new voice
mail.
h. Listen to the available options and then say Call the Sender.
i. Leave a voice mail for Spencer and then follow the prompts to mark the
message as High Importance.
6. Listen to Spencer Low’s voice mail using Outlook Web Access.

a. On the host computer, click Start, click All Programs and then click
Internet Explorer.
b. In Internet Explorer, in the address bar type
https://mail.nwtraders.com/owa and then press ENTER.
c. In the OWA sign-in page, in the Domain\user name field, type
nwtraders\spencer
d. In the Password field, type pass@word1 and then click Log On.
e. At the Office Outlook Web Access page, click OK to accept the defaults.
f. In OWA, in Spencer’s Inbox, open the Voice Mail from Holly Holt
message.
g. Notice the message is marked as High Importance.
h. Notice that Exchange Unified Messaging has transcribed the voice mail and
also your play back options, such as Play and Play on Phone.
i. Close the message but leave OWA open.
7. Create a Call Answering Rule for Spencer Low.
a. On the host computer, in OWA logged in as Spencer Low, at the top of page,
click Options.
b. At the Connect to ex2010.nwtraders.com prompt, log in as
nwtraders\spencer with the password pass@word1
c. On the Options page, along the left-side of the page, click Phone.
d. On the Voice Mail Settings page of the Voice Mail tab, scroll through the
different configurable options such as:
1. Telephone Access
2. Missed Call Notifications
3. Reset Voice Mail PIN
4. Telephone Access Folder
5. Personal Auto Attendant
e. Under Personal Auto Attendant, click New Attendant.
f. On the New Attendant page, in the Name field type After Hours Rule for
contacts.
g. Under Add Conditions, click If it is during this period.
h. On the If it is during this period… page, select Non-working hours and
then click Apply.

i. Under Add Conditions, click If the caller is.
j. On the If the caller is… page, click In my Contacts folder and then click
Apply.
k. Under Add actions the caller can select click Transfer the call to…
l. On the Transfer the caller page, in the project or task field, type urgent
issues
m. Select Contact and then click the Address Book icon.
n. On the Address Book page, click Holly Holt, click Transfer To and then
click OK.
o. On the Transfer the caller page, click Apply.
Now Spencer has a rule that during non-working hours when his Contacts get
his voice mail, they can press 1 to be transferred to Holly Holt for urgent
issues or press # to leave a voice message. Everyone else will get his standard
Unified Messaging greeting.
p. On the New Attendant page, click Save and Close.
8. Create a Call Answering Rule. (Optional)
Spencer has been assigned a new project called Project X and will be spending all of his
Free hours working on it from two different locations. He wants anyone that would be
contacting him about Project X to have the option to call him at the extension in the
labs he is working at instead of leaving a voice message.
a. Create a new Attendant where anyone calling about Project X when Peter’s
status is Free to try and call him at extension 55550 and then 55599

9. Close Internet Explorer, Exchange UM Test Phone, and Windows Explorer on the
host.
10. Close all Set A VM windows.
11. Turn Off all Virtual Machines.
