Common Error Messages

Radio did Not Respond

(see Drivers Page)

This is a very common problem.

Make sure the connector is snapped in all the way.
Some cables require a really hard push to snap in that last 1/16"
One indication is that the transmitter may be keyed.
A slight trimming of the cable plug side and edge may be required.

Note: Message also appears if the radio is not turned ON while downloading.

Error has Occurred, Could not open Com Port x

(see Drivers Page)

Each USB slot is connected to a separate com port to avoid conflict.

Changing your USB slot will change the com port number.

After making this change, you must unplug and replug your USB programming
cable for the new com port number to be effective.

Run-time error 8020: Error reading from comm device.

(see Drivers Page)

Error occurs if Prolific driver version is higher than v3.2.0.0

Downgrade to v3.2.0.0 and the error should go away.

It occurs when you are running the incorrect Factory Software.

global name 'vendors' is not defined
This message is generated by CHIRP.
If the Factory software's 'Other' tab was used to change the UHF Work Band
to 200-260MHz and saved it to the radio, CHIRP will reject your UV5R.
To correct this issue, remove the 220MHz entrees from the .dat file, return the
UHF range back to 400-520MHz, and upload to your radio.
