Software is a set of instructions or programmes that tell a computer what to do . It is
collection of data, instructions and algorithms that are used to operate, manage and control
hardware as well as to perform tasks and operations.

Types of software:
1. Application software
2. System software
3. Programming software
4. Malicious software
5. Open source software
6. Freeware software
7. Enterprise software

Application software:
Application software is a type of software apps and program design to perform specific tasks.
They are run top of system software .They utilize hardware resources. User interact with
interface.
GUI ( Graphical user interface).

System software:
System software is a type of software that manage, control, computer hardware resources and

Program software is also called development software. It is the software tools are used to write
code ,test , debugging, execute the software programs.

Malicious software are types of software that are designed to harm computer systems, users

Open Source Software (OSS):


Open source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify, and
enhance. It’s typically developed collaboratively, and its distribution is usually free.

GIMP (Graphics editor)
Firefox (Web browser)

Freeware Software:
Freeware is software that is available for use at no cost, but its source code is typically not
available for modification. Users are not allowed to change or distribute the code without
permission.

Skype (Communication tool)
WinRAR (File compression utility, though it prompts users to buy a license)

Enterprise Software:
Enterprise software is designed to meet the needs of large organizations rather than individual

(CRM), supply chain management (SCM), and enterprise resource planning (ERP).
