Module 3(December) – Week 5 & 6
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Lesson 1: Solving Systems of Linear Inequalities in Two Variables
For your understanding, open your textbook on pages 147 – 150. Read and examine the examples.
Activity 1: Prove It!
Directions: Complete the table by filling up the 3rd and 4th columns. In the 3rd column, decide whether the
given point is a solution to the system by writing the word “TRUE”, and “FALSE” if otherwise. In the fourth
column, justify your answer by substituting the given point to the given system. The first item is done for
you.
System of Linear Inequality Given Point Decision Justification
2x + y > 5 3x – y < 6
2(2) + 4 > 5 3(2) – 4 < 6
1. 2x + y > 5
(2, 4) TRUE 4+4>6 6–4<6
3x – y < 6
8 > 6 (TRUE) 2 < 6 (TRUE)

2. 5x – y ≤ 5
(-2, 1)
3x – 2y > 6
3. 4x – 3y ≤ 12
(2, 2)
3x + 4y > 6
4. 2x – 4y < 8
(4, 0)
3x + 4y > 12
5. x – 4y ≥ 8
(0, -2)
2x – 6y < 12

Module 4(January) – Week 7
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Lesson 2: Applications of Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities in Two Variables
Note: To solve mathematical problems orderly, you have to follow these steps:
R – representation (assigning variables for the unknown values, “x and y”
E – equation (translating the given problem mathematically)
S – solution (computational part)
A – answer (statement form of the answer to the given problem)
For your understanding, open your textbook on pages 152 - 158. Read and examine the given examples.
Activity 2: Solve It!
Direction: Write the system of linear inequalities that describes the given situation. Define the variables for
each system. The first item is done for you.
1. Gil was asked by his mother to buy cement and gravel for the construction of the pathway in their
garden. A bag of cement costs ₱218, while a sack of gravel costs ₱110. Gil was given ₱2800 and cannot
spend more than that amount. He was also told that the number of bags of cement should be at least 2
more than the number of sacks gravel.

2. Kate babysits for ₱125 an hour and works as a barista for ₱150 an hour. She does both jobs to save at
least ₱5000 for her school books, and she can only work a maximum of 30 hours a week.

3. Grace makes bead bracelets and anklets and sells them to friends and family. It costs ₱22 to make a
bracelet and ₱30 to make an anklet. To make a profit, her total costs must be less than ₱280, and she
can produce no more than 16 pieces of jewelry per day.

Module 4 – Week 8 & 9

Lesson 3: Relations and Functions
A. Methods of Illustrating Relations
Remember:
A relation is the correspondence between two quantities. It is composed of an independent and
dependent variable.
Independent variable is a variable whose value freely changes and does not depend on any quantity.
A dependent variable is a variable whose value depends on the changes of values of the independent
variable.
Domain of a relation is the set of all values for the x – coordinate.
Range of a relation is the set of all values for the y – coordinate.
For your understanding, open your textbook on pages 175 - 177. Read, study and examine the given
examples in finding the domain and range of a relation.

B. Function: A Special Type of Relation

Remember:
 One – to – one correspondence
 One – to – many correspondence Read page 78
 Many – to – one correspondence
A function is a relation in which no two ordered pairs have the same x – coordinate. If the first
coordinate is repeated, then the correspondence is not a function anymore but is still a relation.
For your understanding, open your textbook on pages 178 – 180. Read and examine the given examples.
C. Domain and Range of a Function
 Determining the Domain and Range of a Function Using Its Graph
 Determining the Domain and Range of a Function Algebraically
The domain and range of a function refers to the set of real numbers. This can also be expressed using
the interval notation as( ).
For your understanding, open your textbook on pages 183 – 187. Read and examine the given examples.
 Linear Function and Its Graph
A linear function is a function which, when graphed, will form a straight line. It is a polynomial function
of the first degree and is expresses in the form ( ) where m is the slope of the linear
function and b is its y – intercept.
Some characteristics of a Linear Function are:
a. A polynomial function of the first degree.
b. Its graph is a straight line.
c. A linear function’s domain and range is the set of real numbers. A special type of linear
function, called constant function, has a domain of the set of real numbers and range equal to its y –
intercept. The graph of a constant function is a horizontal line.
d. A linear function has one independent variable and one dependent variable.
e. It is expressed in the form ( )
For your understanding, open your textbook on pages 189 – 193. Read and examine the given examples.
 Applications of Linear Functions
For your understanding, open your textbook on pages 194 – 197. Read and examine the given examples.
Activity 3: Solve and Graph It!
Directions: Draw the graph of the linear function in a paper using table of values for x and y. Use the given
values of x below to find y.
1. ( ) –
