1.1 The following is the bank statement Mr Client received from his bank. Study
the bank statement and the additional information and answer the questions
that follow:

1.1.2 Define the word ‘debit’ according to the given context above. (2)
1.1.3 Determine the value of A. (3)
1.1.4 Calculate Mr Client’s total transaction fees for the period as indicated on the
bank statement. (2)
1.1.5 Calculate the VAT amount that Mr Client pay on the transaction of 3 January. (3)

1.1.7 Round off the opening balance of Mr Client to the nearest thousand. (2)

2.1 Wade Spears is a 28-year-old teacher. He earns R45 000 a month and
contributes 7,5% of his salary to his pension fund each month. Use the
tax table below to answer the questions that follow.

2.1.1 Calculate Wade‘s Annual Gross salary. (2)
2.1.2 Calculate his annual pension fund contribution. (2)
2.1.3 Calculate his annual Taxable income. (2)

2.1.4 Wade claimed that his annual tax would not exceed R110 000.Verify his claim by
calculating his tax for the year ending 28 February 2023. (6)

2.2 The tax threshold for tax payers under 65 years old is R91 250.
Use the tax table, to show that the tax threshold for age under 65, is correct.

3.1 The following stepped tariff table is used by the City of Johannesburg for electricity charges.
The tariff table includes the 2021/2022 increase in electricity costs of 14, 59%.

Use the information provided to answer the questions that follow.


3.1.1 Sashin uses 1 100 units of electricity during January 2022. He claims
that the cost will be R1 766, 70 (including VAT) for the month. Use calculations
to verify whether his claim is CORRECT. (6)

3.1.2 Calculate the average cost per unit for the 1 100 units of electricity consumed
by Sashin for January 2022. (3)
3.1.3 Calculate how much Sashin would have paid for the same 1 100 units of
electricity in the previous financial year. (3)

Mrs French is an avid dog lover. She is worried that her toy poodle might be overweight
and refers to the chart below as a guideline:

Study the above graph and answer the questions that follow:
4.1 Determine the weight (in kg) of a 30-week-old puppy, that is on the 25th percentile. (2)

4.2 Explain what it means if a dog’s weight is classified on the 75th percentile. (3)

4.3 Mrs French’s neighbour’s dog is on the 90th percentile and weighs approximately 3,5kg.
Estimate the dog’s age in weeks. (2)
4.4 Mrs French’s dog weighs 4,5kg at 45 weeks.
(a) Determine on which percentile its age-weight ratio is. (2)
(b) Give Mrs French some advice with regards to her dog’s weight. (3)

After studying the climate in the Karoo National Park, the following data was recorded,
in order to gain more insight into the rainfall patterns.

5.1 Mention ONE method that might have been used to collect the dataset. (2)

5.2 It is given that the total average rainfall for the year is 20 mm.
Determine A, the average rainfall for August. (3)

5.3 Determine the value of the following for the 12 data items above:
a) Mean (3)
b) Median (3)
c) Range (2)
d) Interquartile range
You may use the formula: IQR = Q3 – Q1 (3)

5.4 A data analyst claims that 50% of the dataset of Rainfall was less than 22˚C.
Explain whether or not his statement is VALID. (3)

5.5 Determine, as a unit ratio, in the form 1: …, a rainfall of June to a rainfall of February. (2)

5.6 Determine the probability of randomly selecting a month with an average rainfall of less
than 20 mm. (2)
