1.1 GSPC Gas – Brief
There can be no doubt that Natural Gas is the fuel of 21st Century. As a
progressive company, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) has always
tried to identify new trends and prepare itself for the future. We, at GSPC GAS
Group is laying the groundwork and preparing ourselves for the future.
The GSPC GAS Group’s foray into Gas Distribution in a big way bears testimony
to our core philosophy of being ‘A Complete Energy Company’.
Segments:
The GSPC Gas is catering to the Natural Gas requirements of all the retail
segments, which comprise of industrial, commercial, transportation and
residential customers.
City gas distribution is a facility, set-up for supplying piped natural gas, mainly as a
fuel to domestic, commercial and industrial customers, in city, town. The system
receives high pressure and unodorized gas from transporter, through transmission
line and supplies the same to the customers after filtration, pressure reduction,
odorization and check metering at City Gate Station (CGS). The pressure reduction
may be in four stages depending upon the network design selected. The first
pressure reduction is carried out at CGS, second at CPRS / DRS, third at service
regulator and forth and final at customer premises. The odorization for imparting
smell to gas is installed at City Gas Station (CGS). The system has major assets
like, city gate station (CGS), underground steel distribution network, CPRS, DRS,
MP PE network, service regulators, LP PE network, and customer connections. The
size, rating and type of the major and sub assets are selected based on the pressure
rating, capacity and other applicable criteria considered for whole city gas distribution
system for meeting the current and future customer potential, health and safety of
employees, customers and public at large, environment protection, and complying
the statutory, legal requirements, national and international technical and safety
standards / practices. The main objective of the distribution company is to ensure
safe and uninterrupted gas supply to customers for 24 hours, 365 days by manning
the control room, round the clock, by deploying the team of competent engineers
and technicians, for handling various customer complaints about gas leak / escape,
customer queries and carrying out planned operation and maintenance activities, as
per annual operation and maintenance plan for ensuring safe and uninterrupted gas
supply and integrity of network.

1.4 Natural Gas Composition & Properties
Natural gas is highly flammable. Its flammable limit is from 5% to 15% by volume in
air.
- From fire – through the uncontrolled burning of gas, in case of damage / leak of
pipeline and accumulation of escaping gas in confined space like valve
chambers, closed house

Transmission line Carrying high pressure gas at above 20 bar. It is under scope of GSPL.
It receives high pressure gas through transmission line and carries out
City Gate Station along
filtration, pressure reduction, metering and odourisation before dispatching
with odorization system
to steel distribution network.
Steel Distribution Carrying gas at 15 – 19 bar from CGS and taking up to CPRS, DRS and
Network CNG station
It receives medium pressure gas through steel distribution line and carries
CPRS, DRS out filtration, pressure reduction at 4 -5 bar and dispatches to MP PE
distribution network.
Carrying gas at 4–5 bar from CPRS, DRS and taking up to Service Regulator
MP PE Network
(SR)
Receives medium pressure gas through MP PE network and supply the low
Service Regulators
pressure gas to LP PE network, after filtration and pressure reduction.
Carrying low pressure gas at 900 to 1200 mmwc and supply to Customer
