Physics Lab

The lab report focuses on the acceleration due to gravity using a simple pendulum setup. It discusses the relationship between the time period and length of the pendulum, providing equations to determine the acceleration due to gravity through linear regression analysis. The apparatus required includes a metal bob, string, stand, clamp, meter scale, and stopwatch for measurements.

Simple pendulum

Simple pendulum is a arrangement of a metal bob attached by a light string and suspended vertically
Type equation here .from a fixed positon.
Mgsin=F=ma=mA=Md/dt L

Length and Time period

Length

Distance between the two suspension from the mid points of the bob

Time period

Time complete to one oslicaltion

Relationship

T=2πl/g

Time period equation can be rearranged as

T^2=4π^2/g L

Comparing the equation with straight line equation that goes through the origin (y=mx) the value of the
accelaeration due to gravity can be determined by

g=4π^2/m

where m is the slope of the graph

Linear least square regression method

For two types (independent and dependent) of variables x and y=f(x) the linear least square regression
method can be used for N number of data points to find the best fitted line (regression line) as the figure
shows
Way to get the best fitted by finding the minimum value of

D=d^2+d^2+d^2+d^2+d^2+d^2+d^2
The formula of determining the slope of regression line

=∑ i xiyi-(∑ i xi¿ (∑ i yi ¿/ N /∑ i x i 2−( ∑ i xi ) / N

2

And the intercept c=y-mx where x and y are the mean values

In slope equation :

∑ i xi=x 1+x2+x3+x4+x5+x6+x7
∑ i yi= y 1+y2+y3+y4+y5+y6+y7
∑ i xiyi= x 1 y 1+ x 2 y 2+ x 3 y 3+ x 4 y 4 + x 5 y 5+ x 6 y 6+ x 7 y 7
( ∑ i x) =¿+x2+x3+x4+x5+x6+x7)

∑ i x i2=x 12+ x 22+ x 32 + x 4 2+ x 52 + x 6 2+ x 72
