HOW ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WORKS

Generally, artificial intelligence is built to solve a specific

problem. So it's exposed to the most diverse variables on that
topic. It consists of the ability of machines to interpret
external data, learn, and solve specific tasks to achieve
specific objectives. AI looks to make machines perform
complex tasks, simulate human intelligence, and make
autonomous decision. To make this possible, in many cases,
there is a combination of
several technologies.

POSITIVE PERSPECTIVES

Artificial intelligence
technologies have brought
a series of benefits to our
daily lives. Both in
companies and outside the
corporate environment,
people can integrate AI
solutions to automate
processes and carry out
activities with simplicity.
Here is a list of the benefits of Artificial Intelligence

. Task automation: AI can automate repetitive and

time-consuming tasks, improving efficiency and freeing up
time for more complex and strategic tasks.

. Improved decision-making: AI algorithms can analyze large

volumes of data in real-time and provide valuable insights to
assist in making informed decisions across diverse industries.

. Personalization: AI is used to create personalized

experiences for users, such as product recommendations,
content, and targeted ads, improving customer satisfaction.

. Production efficiency: In industrial sectors, AI can optimize

production, predict maintenance, and reduce operational
costs.

sets, accelerating research in areas such as genomics,
astronomy, and materials science.

. Entertainment: AI is used to create more realistic games,

personalize entertainment experiences, and even develop
music and art.

NEGATIVE PERSPECTIVES

There are several negative perspectives associated with

artificial intelligence, ranging from ethical concerns to
practical challenges. Some of the negative outlooks include:
Technological Unemployment: As AI automates tasks, many
traditional jobs may become obsolete, resulting in
unemployment and economic inequality.

. Privacy: The collection and use of personal data to power AI

algorithms can raise concerns about people's privacy,
especially when that data is used without proper consent.

. Cybersecurity: The same AI used to protect systems can be

exploited by attackers to create more sophisticated and
destructive threats.

. Loss of Control: Relying too much on AI can lead to a loss of

human control in critical areas, such as defense systems, with
potentially catastrophic consequences.

. Replacement of Creative Jobs: Not only manual jobs but also

creative and knowledge jobs can be threatened by AI-based
automation.

. Social Isolation: Trusting too much in AI technologies such as

virtual assistants can lead to social isolation and a decrease
in meaningful human interactions.
. Dependence on Algorithms: Blind trust in the results of AI
algorithms can lead to poor decisions and a lack of
accountability.

. Ethical Challenges: Complex ethical issues, such as creating

autonomous AI with the capacity for moral judgment, raise
ethical dilemmas that have not yet been fully resolved.

. False information: AI can be used to create fake news and

generate false information, which poses a threat to the
integrity of information and public trust.

. Implementation Costs: AI adoption can be costly, especially

for small businesses and developing countries, which can
create economic disparities.

THREATS AND RISKS

AI shows some significant dangers, from job losses to security

and privacy issues, and encouraging awareness about the
issues helps us talk about ethics and the legal, social, and
societal implications of the technology.

.Identity theft
Artificial intelligence tools already present the clear danger of
identity theft. With the ability to imitate human voices,
mannerisms, and even speech patterns, GAI tools can be used
to fool traditional identity verification methods such as voice
calls and live video.

.Deepfake, AI-generated art, and fake news

Deepfake and AI-generated art become a danger to the
public when used to supplement fake news. Individuals and
organizations that vehemently defend their point of view can
put integrity aside to gain new followers for their cause. Fake
news is often incendiary and, in extreme cases, can cause
unrest.
Before sharing a “new” article with your social media followers
or sharing it with others, do additional research to ensure its
veracity. Then, examine the video or image that accompanies
the story.

.Work shift
AI-driven automation has the potential to lead to job losses in
several sectors, particularly for low-skilled workers (although
there is evidence that AI and other emerging technologies will
create more jobs than they will eliminate).

.Economic inequality
AI has the potential to contribute to economic inequality by
disproportionately benefiting wealthy individuals and
corporations. As we discussed above, job losses due to
AI-driven automation are more likely to affect low-skilled
workers, leading to a growing income gap and reduced
opportunities for social mobility.

.AI hallucinations
The cool thing about AI is that it has gotten to the point
where it can think for itself. It is constantly learning and
forming new patterns. The more questions you ask, the more
data it collects and the “smarter” it becomes. However, when
you ask ChatGPT a question that the tool doesn't have an
answer for, it doesn't admit to not knowing it. Instead, you will
come up with an answer like a spoiled child. This
phenomenon is known as AI hallucinations. An excellent
example of an AI hallucination occurred in a New York
courtroom. A lawyer presented a long statement in which he
cited several legal cases to support his argument. It turns out
that the lawyer used ChatGPT to write the entire statement
and did not check the AI's work. ChatGPT fabricated its
supporting quotes, none of which were real.

AI hallucinations could become a threat to society, as they

would have the ability to fill the Internet with false
information. Researchers and writers have a duty to
thoroughly check any work they outsource to text-generation
tools like ChatGPT. When a trusted online source publishes
content and claims it as the unbiased truth, readers should
be able to trust that the publisher is not misleading them.

.AI voice scams

A dangerous use of artificial intelligence is emerging in AI
voice scams. For decades, phishers have tried to obtain
individuals' personal details to make financial gains over the
phone. But now, with the help of AI voice tools, your scams are
entering a new dimension of credibility. With just three
seconds of genuine audio, AI voice generators can imitate
someone's voice with up to 95% accuracy.

While AI voice generators can add some humor to a comedy

deepfake video, criminals are using the technology to
seriously scare people and scam them at the same time. The
criminal will impersonate someone using their voice and call
the real person's loved one, saying they have been robbed or
have been in an accident. McAfee’s “Beware the Artificial
Imposter” report found that 77% of people targeted by an AI
voice scam lost money as a result. Seven percent of people
lost $5,000 to $15,000.

THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL

INTELLIGENCE ON JOB
MARKET

The introduction of artificial

intelligence into the world of
work has brought with it a
series of impacts, some of
which result in concerns due
to potential negative effects.
One of the main challenges
is job automation, where
routine and repetitive tasks
are gradually being taken over by machines and algorithms.
This could result in workers being replaced by technology,
especially in sectors where automation is more viable.

This automation, in turn, could lead to growing economic

inequality, as workers with specific skills needed to efficiently
interact with AI could benefit, while others could face
displacement. The growing need for specialized skills in the
age of AI also highlights the importance of reskilling. Those
who do not possess the required skills may face difficulties in
adapting. Additionally, low-skill and low-paying jobs are
particularly at risk, as they are more susceptible to
automation.

Another critical aspect is technological dependence, which

can expose systems to technical failures and cyberattacks.
This not only puts job security at risk but also raises
questions about job security in highly automated sectors.

However, we will have new professions, as AI has driven the

creation of new professions and job opportunities in sectors
such as machine learning, data science, AI engineering, and
algorithm development. As new technologies emerge, new
demands for specialized skills also arise.

Furthermore, the evolution of AI technology requires workers

to acquire constantly changing skills. Continuous learning is
essential to maintain employability and keep up with changes
in the job market.
