Combined Sci

The document outlines a practical learning activity (CALA) for Form 3 students in Combined Science focused on food tests related to animal nutrition, addressing signs of malnutrition among learners. It consists of two parts: designing an experiment and conducting food tests to identify nutrients in collected food samples. The assessment criteria include the ability to design experiments, collect samples, conduct tests, and deduce findings, with a total score of 50 points.

CALA

Component: A
Learning area: Combined science
Level: Form 3
CALA Type: Practical
Syllabus topic: Nutrition pg 40( 8.73)
Syllabus Sub-topic: Animal Nutrition
CALA title: Food tests
Competence /skills: design,list,identify,investigate,record,observe and draw
Background: It has been observed that most learners at this institution are showing
signs of malnutrition.
CALA: This CALA consists of 2 parts; parts A and B. You are required to respond to both
parts
Part A
 Design an experiment to carry out food tests
 Collect food samples consumed at home
Part B
 Carry out experiments to identify food
 Components present in the food samples collected
 Present your findings
 Deduce the nutrients present and absent from the food samples.
CALA TIPS
Remember that malnutrition is due to undernourishment
Remember that presence of nutrients of nutrients are identified by specific colour changes
You may also tabulate your findings.
