Q.
Q. A 200 mm wide and 250 mm deep T- sectional beam has a web and flanges thickness of 50 mm. It is
subjected to a vertical shear force of 100 kN. Determine the shear stress at the junction of the web and
the flange. Also find the shear stress at the neutral axis.
Q. A simply supported timber beam 100 mm wide and 150 mm deep supports a uniformly distributed
load of intensity w kN/m length over a span of 2 m. If the safe stresses are 28 MPa in bending and 2 MPa
shear, calculate the safe intensity of the load which can be supported by the beam.
Q. An I-section simply supported beam of span 5 m has allowable compressive stress of 30 MPa,
allowable tensile stress of 42 MPa and allowable shear stress of 20 MPa. What value of UDL it can carry?
