*************************** RE-INTERPRETATION OF
CINDERELLA**********************

Scene 1 – The auditions are here!

Narrator: The teacher, Mr. Benson strolls into his first period class,
beaming at his students.

BENSON: ‫( !مرحبًا‬Pronunciation: Mur Haban!) today we are having the

auditions of the spring musical, Bye-Bye Birdie! Lead role auditions are
starting in second period, so anyone who wants to take part in it, you
better be there! (Say this with enthusiasm or with power)

Narrator: Ella smirks, she knows she’ll be the lead! But her smile fades as
she sees her stepsister Ophelia looking quite excited and plainly
anticipating the auditions.

ELLA: ha! She thinks she can beat me! It’s so weird that it’s actually funny!
(Taunting voice)

The bell rings and Ella and Ophelia dart out of class to the auditions.

Scene 2- Time for auditions!

Narrator: Ella and her stepsister Ophelia are auditioning for the lead role
in the school play: “Bye-Bye Birdie”! Their stepsister Alexandra isn’t
there, she prefers science over drama. Ella, the school head cheerleader,
is the main contender for the role… to no one’s surprise.

MADELINE (THE DIRECTOR OF THE AUDITIONS): Ophelia, you’re up now!

(Demanding)

OPHELIA: Wish me luck girls! (Nervous)

ELLA: Break a leg, preferably both! (Sassy)

Narrator: overcome with fear, ophelia falters, shaky and off-key. Madeline
loses her patience halfway through the audition,

Madeline: CUT! We’ll see if a miracle gets you the part!

OPHELIA: I am sorry, was my pitch too high?

Madeline : Sure honey…

Narrator: Madeline calls on Ella next, who performs perfectly and smirks
as she gets a standing ovation

MADELINE: Bravo dear, if your sisters had even an eighth of your talent,
they would be stars by now! Which reminds me, how is your record deal
going? (appraisingly)

ELLA: Aw, thanks Maddy! The record deal is going… perfect, obviously!
(hesitantly, the italicized word should be said with a hint of dishonesty)

Narrator: Ella hesitates to tell Madeline the truth of her failed record deal,
fearing she would lose her prized position as her pet.

Ella: Oh well, I need to leave now if I want any of the lunch lady’s
suspiciously good Macaroni and cheese! Bye! (unsuspecting)

Truly, Ella had left to alter ophelia’s grades in hopes of getting that awful
load of chores off her back at home!

Scene 3- Lunch

(Ibrahim pushes the lunch trolley and sells food to the kids sitting at the
tables and as Ella approaches, Flynn, and Rapunzel wave her over to their
table, she signals that she will sit with her sisters, the narrator comes to
the front of the stage and says his lines.)
Narrator: Alexandra comforts Ophelia at their lunch table – she was not
interested in acting, but knew the auditions meant the world to her.

ALEXANDRA: Ella! Ophelia’s been telling me how you have been so mean
her before the auditions! How cruel! (Angry)

ELLA: Ok, stop the yap bro! She can’t handle the wifi going out!
(Overconfidence)

ALEXANDRA: Girl, social anxiety exists and you’re not helping!(angry at Ella)

ELLA: Fine! I am sorry! (sarcasm in tone)

OPHELIA: we’re good! (forgiving)

Scene 4- The not-so evil stepmother

Ella and her stepsisters return home from school.

PATRICIA (THE STEPMOTHER): ah my lovelies, how were the auditions? (curious)

OPHELIA: Well, mine were-(sad)

Ella: oh forget about that! Mine were perfect!

PATRICIA: Wonderful! Ophelia, your new chores await you. Hurry up!
(commandingly)

OPHELIA: What? I thought Ella had to do chores, I’m not fit for that! She is,
she’s not even our blood!

PATRICIA: How rude! (Angry)

ALEXANDRA: Don’t speak about her that way, it’s not fair to her! (Angry)

Postwoman: sorry to disturb, here are some invites from the millers

ELLA: it looks like the invites for the Millers’ grand party arrived! (excited)
OPHELIA: Ooh! What fits are we going to get!(Forgetting the argument and
getting excited)

PATRICIA: You’re not getting anything till the chores are over! Your grades
are tanking, you have no excuse! (reprimanding)

OPHELIA: But mother-(reproachfully)

PATRICIA: But nothing, get on with your chores, and I may let you come
along. (commanded with a tone of finality, emphasis on may and nothing)

Scene 5- James Miller

While in school, james miller surprises ophelia with an invitational to be

his plus one to his party!

JAMES: Hello Ophelia, would you like to go with me to the party? My parents
are hosting, and I need a plus one. You’ll save me the trouble of asking
everyone, right? (Normal action)

OPHELIA: Of course, James! I would love too! (Very excited)

Narrator: Ella spies on their conversation and jealousy burns in her gut,
she was supposed to ask James! She suddenly has a plan, and it will not
be good….

They reach home.

ALEXANDRA, OPHELIA, AND ELLA: mother we are home! (normal)

PATRICIA: Children! I have your dresses for the party tonight! Here you go!
(joyful)

Patricia gives out the dresses and is delighted when she sees the
surprised and grateful reactions.

OPHELIA: Thank you, oh wow thank you mother! It is beautiful! (Happy)

ALEXANDRA: Not too lavish, just the right length! Amazing! (Happy)

ELLA: My dream dress! (Gasp)

PATRICIA: I am glad you like it! I bought them just for you(Happy)
OPHELIA: Let me put my dress here. One only looks so good without
makeup!

narrator: Later that evening, as they were going to the party, Ella had a
nefarious plan; she wanted to ruin the dress of Ophelia's. She grabbed a
bottle of ink, and without any regret, splattered it all over Ophelia's dress.

OPHELIA: No! My dress! Who would do that! (Shocked and surprised)

Mother!

Patricia: Oh you poor dear! Here’s a spare dress.

Narrator: Patricia at once sent Ophelia upstairs to change with a spare

gown that in simple words, not a slay. Ella smirked; her sabotage was
successful. Ella and her sisters heard a honk at the door.

A taxi was there, waiting to drive the sisters, except Ophelia, to the party.

TAXI DRIVER: Hurry up now! I have not got all day then! (grumbling)

PATRICIA: All right! Girls, go to the taxi while I get another for Ophelia.
(normal)

Narrator: Patricia called a taxi for Ophelia and knocked softly on her door

PATRICIA: Honey? I have called another taxi, the driver in ours is very
impatient! (very slight hint of disgust)

OPHELIA: Ha-ha! He must really be a non sigma if you insult him! (mildly
surprised)

TAXI DRIVER: I heard that! Hey siri, what’s a non sigma?(grumbling louder)

PATRICIA: I must leave then bye now darling. (Normal unknowing of

Ophelia’ pain)

Ophelia sighs and finishes getting ready just as the taxi driver for Ophelia
arrives and takes her to the party.

TAXI DRIVER 2: All right there miss?

OPHELIA: Yes, sir

TAXI DRIVER 2: Great then, let us go!

OPHELIA: Here is the address.

TAXI DRIVER 2: Thanks, we are off then!

Scene 6-Happily Ever After

Narrator: As they arrived at the party, Ella starts to regret her choices,
feeling guilty about her actions toward her sister. She quickly confides in
her friends and creates a plan to make this dance totally unforgettable!

Ella: I think I should help Ophelia because I ruined her dress…

ALEXANDRA: Oh I knew you’d have a change of heart! She should be here

soon and we can fix her dress!(surprised)

Ella: yes! I know just the people!

Narrator: Ella asks a favor from her best friends, Rapunzel and Flynn
Rider, to help her fix ophelia’s dress.

RAPUNZEL: here Ophelia, we came to fix up your dress! (Happy)

OPHELIA: you are Ella's-(confused)

FLYNN: Yes, we know. She is the one that sent us here. (Patiently)

Ophelia looks at Ella for confirmation and matches the smile her
stepsister gives her.

Rapunzel: Arrêté de bouger ou nous aurons quatre-vingts ans quand nous

aurons fini !

FLYNN: translation: stop moving or we’ll be eighty by the time we’re done!
Bro are you okay why are u trying to sneeze, don’t the glitter will go
everywhere!
Ophelia: No way, I’m not falling for another one of her pranks again does
she think I’m a fool? (rolls her eyes)
(Ella walks up)

Ella: Hey, i’m sorry about your dress, To make it up to you, I got your
dress fixed! Before you say anything, let’s enjoy the night and talk about
it after.

Ophelia: alright, thanks ella.

Ella: welcome, now go and dance with James!

Rapunzel: wait! Here’s a sunflower to complete the look

Ophelia: well this just made my day!

Ella: ophie, that’s so cute but james is going to be so impatient with you!
Go!

Ophelia: I can’t find him anywhere; he probably doesn’t want to dance

with me!

Rapunzel: You look so beautiful, why wouldn’t he?

Ophelia: I don’t know!

Narrator: after realizing that James ghosted her, ophelia plunges into her
insecurities and becomes very sad!

*song*

James: sorry that I’m late, and I don’t feel like dancing.

Dancers: BRUH!
