NOTES

1.1 License

1. For both Particleworks 8.0 and Granuleworks 3.0, license servers are common. However, each license is
required to use.
2. For the use of the Software Development Kit (SDK), the SDK option license is required.
3. For the use of the Aeration feature, three licenses are required: Particleworks 8.0, Granuleworks 3.0, and
Interface option.
4. From Particleworks 8.0/Granuleworks 3.0, files of the license server (e.g., lmgrd) are located in “bin” of the
installation folder.
5. From Particleworks 8.0, a LBM-MPS co-simulation consumes two MPS solver jobs.
6. For more details refer to the Install Guide.

1.2 Environment

1. Particleworks 8.0.0/Granuleworks 3.0.0 use the CUDA Toolkit 11.8. Update the NVIDIA driver to CUDA
Toolkit 11.8 compatible.
• Download site: http://www.nvidia.co.jp/Download/index.aspx
• The CUDA Toolkit 11.8 no longer supports the following operating systems.
– Windows 8.1
– Windows Server 2008 R2
– Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL 6, including CentOS 6).
2. Particleworks 8.0/Granuleworks 3.0 supports Windows Server 2019.
3. Particleworks 8.0/Granuleworks 3.0 supports OpenGL 4.0 or later.

Note: The future version of Particleworks/Granuleworks, which will require the next CUDA version, drops support
for the following environments. Therefore, migration to the newer version is recommended.
• Kepler generation GPUs

1.3 Particleworks/Granuleworks

1. Once old projects (created with Particleworks 7.2/Granuleworks 2.2 or earlier) are imported, they cannot be
opened with the previous versions, or simulation options may no longer be consistent. Please ensure you
create a backup before updating.
2. The filenames and paths of .rdyn, .rmd, and .rss files should not include any Japanese characters in
co-simulation with RecurDyn versions prior to V9R2.
3. From Particleworks 8.0/Granuleworks 3.0, the package includes Python for the SDK execution. The opera-
tion is verified only for the bundled Python.
4. The versions of the compilers required to build the SDK programs have been changed from Particleworks
7.2/Granuleworks 2.2. For more details refer to the SDK Manual.

1.4 Particleworks

1. MPI calculation for a periodic boundary condition is not supported.

2. The calculation results with the viscosity model or the surface tension potential model may differ from those
of Particleworks 7.2 when the density difference between fluids exists.
3. From Particleworks 8.0, the negative pressure model is renewed, and the old outside pressure model has been
removed.
4. From Particleworks 8.0, the way to specify the connected inflow to the outflow region and outflow has been
changed.

1.5 Aeration Option

1. Normal DEM calculation and aeration function cannot be used simultaneously.

2. One kind of fluid physical properties can be used as an ambient fluid.
3. Periodic boundary conditions are not supported.
4. Multi-GPU is not supported.

1.6 Granuleworks

1. Periodic boundary conditions are not supported.

2. Multi-GPU is not supported.
3. Granuleworks does not support the volumetric flow rate.
