Chapter 2: Working with Images

Term: 1

1. **What is a digital image? How can you create one?**

A digital image is a visual representation of a scene or object created through

digital technology. It consists of a grid of pixels (tiny dots of color), each having a
specific value that represents color and intensity. You can create a digital image
using various methods such as capturing a photo with a camera, scanning a
physical image, or using graphic design software like Paint or Photoshop.
Drawing tools on a computer or smartphone can also be used to create images
digitally.

2. **Write steps to insert an image from the gallery using Drag and Drop
method.**

- Open the application (e.g., a document editor or image editor).

- Navigate to the area where you want to insert the image.
- Open the gallery or folder where the image is stored.
- Click on the image and hold the mouse button down.
- Drag the image to the desired location in the application.
- Release the mouse button to drop the image into the document or canvas.

3. **How is resizing of image different from cropping it?**

Resizing an image involves changing its dimensions (height and width) without
cutting any part of the image. The entire image remains intact, but it may appear
smaller or larger. Cropping, on the other hand, involves cutting away parts of the
image, focusing on a specific section, and discarding the rest.
4. **What are the tools available in the drawing toolbar? Describe any five
tools.**

The Drawing toolbar contains various tools to create and manipulate graphics:

- **Line Tool**: Draws straight lines between two points.

- **Rectangle Tool**: Creates rectangular or square shapes.
- **Ellipse Tool**: Draws oval or circular shapes.
- **Text Tool**: Adds text boxes to the drawing canvas.
- **Fill Color Tool**: Fills selected shapes with a color of your choice.

5. **How is linking of an image different from embedding? Give a situation in

which you would prefer to link an image.**

Linking an image refers to inserting a reference or path to the image’s location,

meaning the image file remains external and not saved within the document itself.
Embedding an image, on the other hand, means inserting the actual image file into
the document, making it a part of the file.

You would prefer to link an image in situations where the image might change or
be updated frequently, such as when using a company logo stored on a shared
drive. Linking allows the document to automatically reflect the latest version of
the image without having to reinsert it.

6. **Write steps to change properties for drawing objects.**

- Select the drawing object you want to modify.

- Go to the "Format" or "Properties" menu (or use the right-click menu).
- Choose the property you wish to change, such as color, border, size, etc.
- Modify the property settings as required (e.g., change the line color or shape
size).
- Click "Apply" or "OK" to confirm the changes.

7. **What are the benefits and drawbacks of grouping drawing objects?**

- **Benefits**:
- Grouping objects allows you to move, resize, or format multiple objects as a
single unit, saving time and ensuring consistency.
- It helps in maintaining the arrangement and alignment of complex drawings or
graphics.

- **Drawbacks**:
- Editing individual objects becomes difficult, as you need to ungroup them first.
- It can sometimes lead to loss of flexibility in manipulating parts of a graphic
separately.

8. **Describe any two tools from the Drawing Object Properties toolbar.**

- **Line Color Tool**: Allows you to change the color of lines or borders of
shapes or objects.
- **Transparency Tool**: Enables you to adjust the transparency level of an
object, making it more or less visible.

9. **Write steps to insert an image in a basic drawing shape.**

- Select the drawing shape (like a rectangle or ellipse) where you want to insert
the image.
- Right-click on the shape and choose the "Insert Picture" or "Fill with Image"
option (depending on the software).
- Navigate to the folder containing the image, select it, and click "Open" or
"Insert".
- The image will now fill the shape, and you can resize or adjust it as needed.

Q10. Write factors controlling positioning of an image in a document.

Ans: Positioning of an image is controlled by four settings.
(i) Arrangement: In Overlapping objects arrangement determines the position
of the current drawing with respect to other drawings or text. The
(ii) Anchoring It refers to the reference point for the graphics. This point could
be the page, or frame where the object is. An image always has an anchor point.
(iii) Alignment: It allows the vertical or horizontal placement of the image with
respect to its anchor.
(iv) Text Wrapping: It refers to the relation of graphics to the surrounding text,
which may wrap around the graphic on one or both sides, be overprinted behind
or in front of the graphic.
