Converting data in to information: Plotting data on chart; Extracting data from database; Manipulating

and summarizing data

Book: Show Me the Numbers

Book: Regression Modeling Strategies: With Applications to Linear Models, Logistic Regression, and
Survival Analysis by Frank E. Harrell Jr.

Book: Statistics by David Freedman, Robert Pisani, and Roger Purves.

Descriptive Stat: using frequency to visualize category data

Measure of location: mean, median, mode, midrange

Measure of dispersion: range, interquartile range, variance, standard deviation

Scatter plot: best for 30 – 500 points.

Working with missing data:

- Deleteing rows: < 5% data

- Mean/ Median/ Mode imputation: 5% - 25% data => small bias
- Regression imputation: build and use model to impute missing value
- Deleting variables: better to remove variable than make too many assumptions

Statistical significance testing:

- Test statistic
- Null hypothesis
- Alternative hypothesis
- Significance level
