Imrad Format Chapter 7 Publishable Format

Chapter 7 outlines the importance of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals as a measure of academic success. It details the IMRaD format for structuring research papers, emphasizing the clarity and rigor of the methods, results, and discussion sections. The chapter also highlights the significance of writing a compelling introduction and a concise abstract, along with adhering to ethical standards and proper citation formats.

CHAPTER 7

PUBLISHABLE FORMAT

The publishable form of a research is considered as the true gauge of academic achievement in the
scholarly world as judged by fellow researchers, scholars, funding agencies and other consumers
of research. Results of research must be accessible to other scientists, educators, it must be written
and published.
Publication in peer-reviewed journal entails the process by which the author’s peers or experts in
the content area evaluate the rigor of the research as reflected in the manuscript.
Bases for Articles to be Accepted for Publication in Credible Peer-reviewed Journals
• the importance, timeliness, relevance, and prevalence of the problem addressed;
• the quality of the writing style (well‐written, clear, straightforward, easy to follow, and
logical);
• the study design applied (that the design was appropriate, rigorous, and comprehensive);
• the degree to which the literature review was thoughtful, focused, and up‐to‐date (last three
or five years
STEPS IN WRITING THE PUBLISHABLE FORMAT
1. Follow the IMRaD format:
Introduction
Method
Results
a (and) (analysis)
Discussion

2. Method
Write the method section first. This section needs to be very clear, very specific, very
detailed, and focused only on the method.
Separate each type of data gathering method(interviews, focus groups, experiments, etc.)
into sub-sections and only discuss one research method in each sub-section (for clarity and
organization, it’s important to not talk about multiple methods at once).

Be very detailed. In the interview of people, how many people were interviewed, what
were asked from them, why chose to interview over other methods, why were these people
interviewed specifically (include the demographic information if it’s relevant), and so
forth. For other types of data collection,–the conduct should be fully explained-how long
was the observation made; or how frequent was the testing.
• Most of the details are in the study protocol and may be copy-pasted from there.
• Request and granting of ethics clearance is indicated here.
• Methodology is the easiest section to start and doesn’t require much time to complete.
The methods should be described clearly and anyone with the proper training should be
able to replicate your experiments based on this section.

3. Results
• Show only the data
• The results section is pretty self-explanatory. It is the portion of the paper where
the author describes the results that were obtained during the course of the study.
Results should be reported neutrally and reference any tables and figures included
in the paper. Summarize the findings, but do not discuss the data.
• Describe the important details of the visual representation
• It is not important to describe every data presented
• Include graphics and images
• Label and title every table and graphics

4. Discussion
• The discussion is where the authors analyze the findings
• The length depends on the study
• Determine which results are important
• Compares the study with other scientific study
• Include citations to appropriate key references
• Describe the important details of the visual representation
• It is not important to describe every data presented

5. Introduction
After writing the discussion, the researcher is now ready to write the introduction.
• The introduction is critical in attracting the readers’ attention
• Use the introduction to state why your study is necessary
• A brief review of literature can be cited in support of the introduction
• Identify the scientific problem
• Explain the issues related to the problem
• Address the challenges in the study design
• End with the hypothesis statement if applicable

6. Abstract
• Write the abstract last
• The abstract summarizes the article
• Provide all critical key information especially the results or conclusions
• Identify at least five keywords that will describe the study
Reminder:
1. Write and Rewrite
2. The authors are responsible for the integrity of their published data including its analysis
and interpretation.
3. It is prudent to discuss authorship with all the participants involve in the study
4. Use APA Format in Citation and Referencing 7th Edition
