MICROSOFT WORD ENVIRONMENT

Opening a document
Anytime we load Microsoft word, a new document is opened by default.to open a new
document:
• Click on the office button
• Select new from the displayed option
• Select blank document from the dialog box
• Click on create button
• A blinking cursor appears in the text area called the insertion point.
• Follow the cursor by entering text into the text area
To open an existing document:
• Click on the office button
• Select open from the displayed option
• Select the driver or directory where the document is located
• Select the document from the dialog box
• Click open button

Other word processing features include


1. Headers, Footers and Page numbering: allow you to specify customized headers and
footer that the word processor will put at the top and button of every page.
2. Layout: Allow us to specify different margins within a single document and to specify
various methods for in denting paragraphs.
3. Spell checker: A utility that allow you to check the spelling of words.it will highlight
any words that it does not recognize.
4. Thesaurus built –in thesaurus that allow you to search for synonyms without the
leaving the word processor
5. Windows: Allows you to edit two or more document at the same time. Each document
appears in a separate window.
6. Page: this is the white region of the Microsoft office window or file where text and
graphics are added or wrapped within the margins of the page.
7. Tabs: this provides one click access to the group of commands on the ribbon. Each tab
consists of groups of commands. Example: on the home tab, we have groups of
commands used to cut, copy and paste a text/graphic {clipboard group}, change front
properties like colour, size family, as well as make justify {paragraph group} etc.
8. Office button: this provides access to the word options dialog boxes and to command
that control what you can do with a document you have created, such as printing,
saving {as well as adding password} and so on
9. Quick access toolbar: this provides us with frequently used command such as undo,
redo, save
etc. other tools can also be added on the quick access toolbar.
