Rational Numbers: Simplify

The document provides an overview of rational numbers, including definitions of natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, and fractions. It explains the structure of rational numbers in the form p/q, where p and q are integers and q is not zero, and includes examples of identifying and expressing rational numbers. Additionally, it covers operations involving rational numbers, such as finding equivalent forms and representing them on a number line.

Numerator and denominator

In , the integerp is the numerator and the integer g ( 0) is the denominator.
Thus, in the numerator is -2 and the denominator is 9.
Rational numbers include natural numbers, whole numbers, integers and
fractions.

Case ll: Addition of rational numbers with different denominators

Step I: It the denominators of the given rational numbers are not positive, then convert them
into rational numbers with positive
denominators.
Step 2: Find the LCM of the positive obtained in
denominators of the rational numbers step 1.
Step 3: Express each of the rational numbers obtained in step 1 with the LCM (found in the
previous step) as the common denominator.
Step 4: Add the rational numbers as shown in
