INTRODUCTION
De finition
A proximity sensor is an electronic device that

detects the presence or absence of nearby objects

without any physical contact. It uses various sensing

technologies such as infrared, ultrasonic, capacitive, or

magnetic sensing to detect the presence of an object.

The sensor emits a signal, and when an object is in close

proximity, the signal is reflected back to the sensor, which

triggers a response.

The working Principle of
Capacitive Proximity Sensor
How a Capacitive Sensor operates ?

As an electronic device that is used to detect the targets like liquids or

solids without any physical contact. the capacitive sensor will produce an
electrical field from the sensor’s detecting end.

The Capacitive Proximity Sensor is consisted of a high-frequency

oscillator along with a sensing surface formed by two metal electrodes. When
an object comes near the sensing surface, it enters the electrostatic field
of the electrodes and changes the capacitance of the oscillator.
The capacitive sensor is based on parallel plate capacitor
seperated by dielectric materiel poor of electricity .The two parallel
plates are conductive that create an electrical field .

The conductive type of this sensor is considered one plate

inside the sensor and the target acts as the second plate :When the
distance between the object and the sensing face decreases ;the
capacitance and the oscillation amplitude increases.

*The capacitance is the ability of a

capacitor to store electric charge.
It’s inversely proportionnel to the
distance between two plates.

Speed
The sensor detects the speed from the
rotation of the gear tooth. The amplitude is
maximum when the metal which constitutes
the machine is closer to the sensor.
