Worksheet (2024-25)

Class: VIII Chapter 8: FORCE AND PRESSURE

Write the Activities with reference to your TB, in CW.

(Steps of activity: Aim, Material Required, procedure, observation and conclusion, figure if any)
1. Aim: Force Brings the change in state of an object. (Refer Activity8.3 or 8.4)
2. Aim: Magnetic force is non-contact force (Refer activity 8.6)
3. Aim: Electrostatic force is noncontact force (Refer activity 8.7)
4. Aim: Pressure exerted by water at the bottom of the container depends on the height of its
column (Refer Activity 8.8)
5. Aim: Liquids exert equal pressure at the same depth (Refer Activity 8.9)
6. Aim: A liquid exerts pressure on the walls of the container (Refer Activity 8.10)
7. Aim: Pressure is inversely proportional to Ares of cross section (Refer figure 8.12 and 8.13)
8. Aim: Fluid always flow from high pressure to low pressure. (refer activity 8.11 or working of
straw, working of injections etc.)

Solve the following:

1. If a force of 500 N is applied to an area of 25m2, calculate the pressure.
2. Calculate the pressure developed by a force of 50 N acting on an area of 10m2.
3. The elephant weighs 20,000 N stands on one foot of area 1000 cm 2. How much pressure would it
exert on the ground? (1cm2 = 10-4m2)
4. Calculate the force which produced by a pressure of 400Pa acting on an area of 2.0 m2.
5. The pressure of a gas contained in a cylinder with a movable piston is 300 Pa. The area of the
piston is 0.5 m2. Calculate the force that is exerted on the piston.
6. A car is moving to the east with a force of 5000 N. At the same time, a wind is pushing it to the
west with a force of 2000 N. Determine the net force on the car.
7. A 10 kg object is subjected to two forces: a 20 N force to the right and a 15 N force to the left.
Calculate the net force acting on the object.
8. A force exerts a pressure of 45Pa when it acts on an area of 10m2. Calculate the total force.
9.

In the above figure, the arrows indicate the direction of forces F1 and F2 and the magnitudes of
the respective force are given above the arrows. Initially the block is at rest. Towards which
direction will the block move?

10.
