STATISTICAL REPORT

OJECTIVES:
1. Define the term statistical report
2. Understand the purpose of a statistical report
3. Analyze a sample report

A report is a written document that gives an account of the findings of an individual group.
A statistical report uses figures to convey information/data. The figures or numbers are analyzed
by finding trends and significant figures.
The statistical report is the process to develop and arrange the data in a systematic manner so it
would be convenient for the readers to understand the data. Statistical reports not only make it
suitable for professional readers but also make it convenient for non-experienced audiences who
wish to understand the fundamentals of any institution.

TERMS USED IN STATISTICAL REPORTS:


Trend: a trend is a general pattern, direction or tendency. For example: increase, decrease,
consistency- when there is no pattern then it is called fluctuation.
Significant figures: significant figures are separate pieces of information which stand out or are
different from the overall pattern or trend. They can be the highest or lowest figures.

Statistical reports can be presented in:


 Bar graphs
 Pie Charts
 Tables
 Line Graphs
 Histograms
How to examine trends in a statistical report:
1. Examine each item for increase, decrease or consistency.
2. Describe the pattern precisely. Example: steady increase.
3. Look for fluctuations.
4. Pay attention to the significant trends.
