What is PDC? Classify it and make a broad list of the differences between
all type of PDC.
Introduction: Whether we are trying to come up with the "next best thing" for our company
to produce or a new product entirely, the product development cycle is crucial to successfully
bringing a product to market. A product's development begins with a design concept and
moves through each stage until it is launched into the market. With each stage comes more
crucial product information, fine tuned details and required documents for a successful launch.
When going throughout this process, it is important to consider items like:
What is PDC?
Modern product development cycle: In modern PDC primary approval of the sample
is necessary. From there we have to create yarn simulation. Then fabric simulation. And then
garments simulation. From there we have to made virtual modelling. Then it is send for
secondary approval. If it is approved then we made real sample. Then final modelling. Then bulk
sewing is produced. Spec sheet is made for this particular garment. And finally these products
send for final approval. It is suitable for mass production. For this reason now a days it is
widely used in textile industry.
Design Concept - An idea is formed. We must identify and assess critical marketing and
manufacturing barriers, along with the ability to fully communicate the concept.
Technical Feasibility – We know what we want it to do, now we need to confirm if that
target is attainable. We will also verify that there are no technical or economic limitations to
implementation that cannot be overcome by development.
Product Development - By verifying the product performs how it should, we will be able
to make necessary improvements in materials, designs, components and processes.
Product Validation - Validating our product and understanding its reliability helps our
establish the market validity. In this stage, we will also validate your warranty period.
Full Production - Our product has been launched.... now what? Why not find out just how
our product stands against the competition? This will give the opportunity to make
improvements on the next revision... or really boost our sales by exposing your competition!
Support - Things have been going fairly well since you've launched your product. Now
failure data is coming back from the field.... what does this mean? Why is this happening?
Conclusion: The Product development stage is the first part of the Product Life Cycle. This
stage is not only about building the product, it includes carrying out research and testing too.
Market research and competitor analysis are the main part of the research for the development
stage. These are done to get an idea of the potential growth for the product, and to build a
business case to validate the product. The Product Life Cycle is the set of commonly identified
stages in the life of commercial products. The stages which a product cycles through during its
lifespan are: Development, Introduction, Growth, Maturity and Decline.
