7 BTS site solution features

7.1 RG302529: Enhanced BCCH Energy Saving

Benefits, functionality, system impact, reference data, instructions of the feature

The RG302529: Enhanced BCCH Energy Saving feature enhances the BSS20958:
Energy saving mode for BCCH TRX with additional dB transmit power reduction modes.
What is more, the RG302529 feature reduces electricity consumption even more in
cooperation with the BSS20958 feature.

7.1.1 RG302529 benefits

The RG302529: Enhanced BCCH Energy Saving feature provides the following benefits:
• Reduced energy consumption what results in lower OPEX and increased
environment protection.
• Improved network performance due to reduction in interference.

7.1.2 RG302529 functional description

Introduction
The RG302529: Enhanced BCCH Energy Saving feature improves the functionality
range of the BSS20958: Energy saving mode for BCCH TRX feature. The BSS20958
feature reduces transmit power for broadcast control channel transceiver (BCCH TRX)
mode by 2 dB and enables dynamic power control on active dedicated circuit switched
channels at the same level. For more information about this feature functionality, see
BSS20958: Energy saving mode for BCCH TRX feature description.

The RG302529 enhancements

The RG302529: Enhanced BCCH Energy Saving introduces the following enhancements
to the BSS20958: Energy saving mode for BCCH TRX feature:
• An option to define additional 2,4,6 or 8 db of transmit power reduction for dummy
burst on the idle channels.
• Improved dynamic power control on the active dedicated circuit-switched channels of
the BCCH TRX (up to 8 dB reduction for the active timeslots).
• Transmit power reduction in the BCCH TRX (idle/active channels) applicable also to
the timeslot 7 (TSL7). In addition, the reduction inTSL7 can be restricted to 2 dB by
using the UTPFIL parameters.
• A configurable time window for the RG302529 functionality and restoring back (to the
BSS20958 functionality) after end of time window.
• Compensation factor applied to UE-reported neighbor cell measurements used for
handover decisions.

The greatest energy savings are provided by the dummy burst power reduction during
periods of low traffic, for example at night time. With the dynamic power control of active
dedicated channels, the feature reduces electricity consumption throughout the day.

Power reduction principles for SDCCH and TCH channels

When RG302529: Enhanced BCCH Energy Saving feature is used, the power is reduced
in the idle stand-alone dedicated traffic channel (SDCCH) and the TCH channels on
TSLs 1–7 as well as in the active SDCCH and TCH connections on TSLs 1–7. For the
active SDCCH/TCH connections on TSL1 – TSL7 of the BCCH TRX, the transmit power
can be dynamically reduced up to 8 dB if determined by the traditional power control
parameters.

restrictions for TSL7

In addition, it is possible to restrict power reduction on TSL7 to 2 dB for security reasons.

Restricted power reduction on TSL7 can be managed through the UTPFIL parameters.
