What I Need to Know
In our daily lives we use to organize things in order to collect data
which is reliable as a source of information where it will be easier to see,
analyze and interpret.

In our school for instance, how will you present the information
about your scores in your summative test in Mathematics if you are 20 in
the class? Is it right for you to use table?

In this module, you will learn how to collect data on one variable
using existing records.

Learning Objectives
After studying this lesson, you should be able to:

1. Collects data on one variable using existing records.

2. Sort, classify and organize data in tabular form and presents

this into a vertical or horizontal bar graph.

Remember

In order to achieve the objectives of this module, do the following:

vi
1. Take your time in reading the lessons carefully.
2. Follow the directions or instructions in the activities.
3. Answer all the given tests and exercises.
What I know
Before you will proceed, find out first how much you already know about
the topic to be discussed by answering the test.

A. Read, analyze and answer what is asked.

Mrs. Basing-at administered a summative test in Mathematics

in her Grade 3 class. The scores are shown below

Well, how was it? Do you think you answered well? Compare your
answers with those in the Answer Key.

If all your answers are correct, very good! This shows that you
already know much about the topic in this module. You may still study
the module to review what you already know.

If you got a low score, don’t feel bad. This means that this module
will help you. It will help you understand some important concepts that
you can apply in your daily life. If you study this module carefully, you will
learn the answers to all items in the test and a lot more! Are you ready?

You may begin the lesson.

1. How did we organize the information given?

- we organize the data or information using a table.
2. Why is there a need to organize the information in a table?
- we need to organize the information in a table, so that it will be
easier to see, analyze and interpret.

[B.] How are we going to present the data or information? Do you

know the two kinds of bar graphs? Let’s take a looklook on
these kinds of bar graphs in “What’s New” to help you discover
and understand the concept.

We organize data using tables and bar graphs. In using bar graphs, we
can use vertical bar graph and horizontal bar graphs. However, in using
the two kinds of bar graphs we must observe these thingthese things:
a. Draw the vertical and horizontal axis.
b. Make the appropriate scale/interval in the vertical axis.
c. Write the different categories. (ex. number of pupils, scores)
d. Draw the bar for each category based on the given data. (left
side, bottom/below)

xiii
e. Write a good title for the bar graph.

What’s More
Are you ready to apply what you have learned? Yes, I know you
are. So, try answer these activities prepared for you. I know you can do
it.
