Half-Wave and F

The laboratory exercise focuses on understanding diode applications and the principles of half-wave and full-wave rectification. Using Proteus software, students will design circuits and analyze input and output graphs with an oscilloscope. The theory explains how rectification converts AC to DC, emphasizing the function of diodes in allowing current to flow in one direction.

Laboratory 1

Half-Wave and Full-Wave Rectifiers

OBJECTIVE: The basic objective of this lab:

 To know the basic uses of diode.

 To know about Half wave and full wave rectification.
 To know about the characteristic of half wave rectifier circuit and full wave rectifier circuit.
 To design a circuit using diode and other electronic circuit.

SOFTWARE USED:

We will use proteus software to design half and full wave rectification circuit and show the output and
input graph using Oscilloscope.

COMPONENT USED:

 . Resistor 1k
 .Ac voltage Source. 12v
 Diode (PIV should be greater)
 Wires
 Ground
 Oscilloscope

THEORY:

Rectification is a method to convert AC (Alternating Current) to DC (Direct

Current) include full-wave rectification and half-wave rectification. In both

cases, rectification is performed by utilizing the characteristic that current flows

only in the positive direction in a diode.

I.Half -Wave Rectifier

 In Half Wave Rectifier, when the AC supply is applied at the input, a positive

half cycle appears across the load, whereas the negative half cycle is

suppressed.

 This can be done by using the semiconductor PN junction diode.

When the p-n junction diode is forward biased, it gives little resistance and
when it is reversing biased it provides high resistance.

 During alternate half-cycles, the optimum result can be obtained. The diode

allows the current to flow only in one direction. Thus, converts the AC voltage

into DC voltage.

 Circuit Diagram of Half Wave Rectifier

In half-wave rectification, only one crystal diode is used. The AC supply to be

rectified is generally given through a transformer. It is connected in the circuit

as shown in figure.
