In many countries worldwide, the number of people living longer is rising. While
the age population brings certain benefits, the drawbacks should also be
considered.
On the one hand, an aging population has some advantages. The first one is the
wealth of knowledge and experiences the elderly possess. For example, retired
professionals can mentor younger workers by passing down their technical skills
and lessons from their career; therefore, the younger ones can have more
motivation and enrich their communities effectively. Another positive aspect is that
when people live longer, they can help strengthen family ties because it allows
grandparents to play a vital role in their grandchildren’s lives. For instance, in
Vietnamese families, most aged people spend their free time taking care of their
grandsons and granddaughters which provides stability and support.
On the other hand, there are two drawbacks to take into account. First, the aging
population may lead to increased healthcare expenses. As an example, in the
United States, healthcare spending for older adults is significantly higher, with
Medicare expenditures rising as the population ages, leading to increased taxes and
insurance fees. Another negative aspect is that longer life expectancy can challenge
pension systems, causing potential shortages in retirement funding which affects
directly to economy in their society and makes the younger stressed in earning
money.
In conclusion, life expectancy provides some benefits regarding valued
experienced and family bonding. However, it also has several drawbacks related to
healthcare and pension systems. People should take both sides into consideration
so that they can choose the most suitable option.
