Learning objectives
• …you will understand the main working principle of HART communication and
the major HART commands.
• …you will know possible topologies to enable the HART communication to field
devices.

HART - unlock existing potentials
• HART is the global standard for sending and receiving digital information across analog
wires between smart devices and control or monitoring system.
• More than 30 million devices worldwide, accounting approximately for 85% of all devices around
the world.
• 1300+ registered devices in 24 categories manufactured by 300+ members.

• The communication of the HART controller are based on so called HART commandos
which are defined in the application layer.
• With help of predefined commands, a controller sends tasks to a field device.
• The device response right after with the requested data.
Layer 7
• 5 major classes of commands exist: Application layer Commands and data formats
Universal, common practice, device-specific
• Universal commands
Layers 3-6
• Common Practice commands Not in use
• Device-Specific commands
Layer 2 Communication technology
• Device Family commands Data link layer
Master-Slave protocol /Implied Token Passing
• WirelessHART commands

• The HART over PROFIBUS solution allows access to all HART devices connected
to PROFIBUS via Remote I/O with HART functionality from one central point.

• There are many possibilities to connect a acyclic tool such as FieldCare to PROFIBUS.
• Gateways Ethernet to PROFIBUS are used, such as the Endress+Hauser Fieldgate SFG 500.
