ASSERTION AND REASONING QUESTIONS

Instructions:

• A statement of Assertion is followed by a statement of Reason. Choose the

correct option:
1. Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct
explanation of Assertion.
2. Both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct
explanation of Assertion.
3. Assertion is true but Reason is false.
4. Assertion is false but Reason is true.

1. Assertion (A): The preceding integer of the integer 1 is -1.

Reasoning (R): Preceding integer is the integer which comes before that
particular integer.

Assertion is false but Reason is true.

2. Assertion (A): -5 is greater than -10.

Reason (R): On a number line, a number to the right is always greater than a
number to the left.

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.

3. Assertion (A): The perimeter of a square is four times the length of its side.
Reason (R): A square has four equal sides, and the sum of all its sides gives
the perimeter.

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.

4. Assertion (A): The perimeter of a rectangle depends only on its length.

Reasoning (R): The perimeter of a rectangle is calculated as 2 × (Length +
Breadth).

Assertion is false but Reason is true.

5. Assertion (A): 3/4 and 6/8 are equivalent fractions.
Reasoning (R): If we multiply both numerator and denominator of 3/4 by 2,
we get 6/8.

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.

6. Assertion (A): A mixed fraction can be converted into an improper fraction.

Reasoning (R): A mixed fraction is a combination of a whole number and a
proper fraction.

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is not the correct explanation
of Assertion.

7. Assertion (A): The pattern 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 is a square number pattern.

Reasoning (R): The square of the natural numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 gives the terms
of the sequence.

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.

8. Assertion (A): The height of the bars in a bar graph represents the frequency
of the data.
Reasoning (R): The width of the bars in a bar graph also contributes to the
data representation.

Assertion is true but Reason is false.

9. Assertion (A): In a bar graph, the bars are always placed vertically.
Reasoning (R): A bar graph can have bars placed either horizontally or
vertically.

Assertion is false but Reason is true.

10. Assertion (A): A line segment has both a start point and an end point.
Reasoning (R): A line segment is the shortest distance between two points.
Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion

11. Assertion (A): The angle between the hands of a clock at 3:00 is 90°.
Reasoning (R): The minute hand is at the 12, and the hour hand is at the 3,
forming a right angle.

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion

12. Assertion (A): 54345 is a palindromic number.

Reasoning (R): A palindromic number always has an odd number of digits.

Assertion is true but Reason is false.

13. Assertion (A): The sum of digits of a 4-digit number can never be 1.
Reasoning (R): The smallest 4-digit number is 1000, and the sum of its digits is 1 +
0 + 0 + 0 = 1.

Assertion is false but Reason is true.

14. Assertion (A): A perpendicular bisector of a line segment divides the segment
into two unequal parts.
Reasoning (R): A perpendicular bisector divides a line segment into two equal parts
and forms right angles.

Assertion is false but Reason is true.

15. Assertion (A): If a positive integer is added to a negative integer, the result will
always be positive.
Reasoning (R): A positive integer always results in a positive sum with any positive
integer.

Assertion is false but Reason is true.
