Self-Correction Due Date: Fri, Mar 21, 2025 @ 8:00 PM

Question 1.
Given the following differential equation, where 𝑦(𝑡) is the output and 𝑢(𝑡) is the input:

2𝑦̈ (𝑡) + 18𝑦̇ (𝑡) + 28𝑦(𝑡) = −8𝑢̇ (𝑡) + 4𝑢(𝑡)

(a) Determine the transfer function.

(b) Determine the stability of the system.
(c) Draw the poles of the transfer function in the complex plane.
(d) Identify if the response is oscillatory or non-oscillatory.
(e) Determine the system response for an input 𝑢(𝑡) = 𝑒 −3𝑡
(f) Sketch the system response

Question 2.
Given the following differential equation, where 𝑦(𝑡) is the output and 𝑢(𝑡) is the input:

𝑦̈ (𝑡) + 2𝑦̇ (𝑡) + 2𝑦(𝑡) = 5𝑢(𝑡)

(a) Determine the transfer function.

(b) Determine the stability of the system.
(c) Draw the poles of the transfer function in the complex plane.
(d) Identify if the response is oscillatory or non-oscillatory.
(e) Determine the system response for a unit step input 𝑢(𝑡) = 1.
(f) Sketch the system response

Question 3.
A mass-damper system has the following transfer function 𝐻(𝑠), where 𝑣 is the system velocity and 𝑢 is the
input, find the unit impulse response 𝑣(𝑡) given non-zero initial conditions. Sketch the system response.

𝐻(𝑠) = = where 𝑣(0) = 1
𝑈(𝑠) 2𝑠 + 12
Question 4.
A mass-spring-damper system is shown in the figure, where a mass moves on an inclined plane with an angle
𝜃 = 30∘ . If 𝑘 = 100 𝑁/𝑚, 𝑐 = 29 𝑁𝑠/𝑚, and 𝑔 = 9.8 𝑚/𝑠 2 , 𝑚 = 1 𝑘𝑔.

(a) Draw the free-body diagram of the system and find the equation of motion for the system (Note: The initial
deflection and velocity are assumed to be zero).
(b) Find the transfer function.
(c) Analyze the stability and oscillatory behavior of the system.
(d) Plot the poles of the system in the complex plane.
(e) Apply the Laplace transform to the original differential equation considering the effect of gravity, assuming
