INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS

The material in this document is specifically developed ONLY for the use of
professional Airline pilots in preparing for their simulator check-ride.

Why did I develop this project? ... explaining some stuff about the download version.

BUS TIE Switch -
9 AUTO - The BUS TIE contactors open and close automatically. They
keep power on AC BUSSES 1 and 2.

During ENGINE shutdown, AUTO attempts to keep AC BUS TIE powered.

OFF - Both BUS TIE contactors are OPEN.

EXT PWR (External Power) Switch -


10 Situation 1: AVAIL LIGHT ON, When PUSHED:

-External power contactor closes,


-AVAIL light goes OUT,
-ON light comes ON
(and remains ON until the engine generators
start supplying electrical power).

Situation 2: EXT PWR (External Power) ON light illuminated:

-External power contactor OPENS,


-ON light goes out,
-AVAIL light illuminates.

The NORMAL PRIORITY is:

- ENGINE GENERATORS,
- EXTERNAL POWER (when EXT PWR switch is ON),
- APU.
After the second engine has been started, the ENG GENERATORS will automatically
be powering the AC busses. The APU or EXTERNAL PWR is automatically
disconnected from the AC busses; however, it remains connected to and continues to
power the AC TIE BUS and the EXT PWR ON light remains illuminated. The EXT
PWR ON light remains illuminated until the EXT PWR switch is selected OFF.

CAUTION:

ZAPO!
Select the EXT PWR switch
OFF prior to disconnecting
ground power
to avoid surges.

Here is what that sez: BEFORE you tell the


ground personnel to “DISCONNECT” ...
ensure that the EXT PWR switch is
de-selected. It could be a BIG
surprise to both of you!

GO-AROUND PHASE: If, during the APPROACH phase, the thrust levers are manually placed
into the TO/GA detent, the airplane enters the GO-AROUND phase.

If BOTH auto-pilots are engaged (such as during an auto-land or CAT III approach) they will
remain engaged until:
Either another LATERAL or VERTICAL mode is annunciated. THEN
the #2 Auto-pilot will dis-engage.

If the airplane should touch down during the go-around evolution, it will continue the go-around.

High Flight
