Understanding The Role Of Mobile Phone Use In The Academic Performance Of Senior
High School Students

Background of the Study

In today's digital age, mobile phone has become an essential part of students daily lives,

serving as tools for communication, information access, and entertainment. With the increasing

affordability and accessibility of smartphones, senior high school students rely on these devices

not only for personal use but also for academic activities (Williams & Carter, 2020). The

integration of mobile phones into education has facilitated new learning opportunities, allowing

students to access online resources, collaborate in virtual classroom, and utilize educational

application (Thomsons & Garcia, 2021). However, the growing dependence on mobile phones

raises concerns regarding thier potential effects on students academic performance, particularly

when usage is unregulated or excessive. While mobile phones offer various academic

advantages, they also pose significant challenges, especially in terms of time managements and

focus. According to Lee & Johnson (2022), exessive mobile phones use among students often

results in reduce study hours, increased procrastinations, and lower academic achivements. This

study aims to investagate the role of mobile phones usage in academic performance of senior

high school students.
