Lab 3 - Client-Server-Connectivity-LAN-Topology - DSU

The document outlines a laboratory experiment for establishing connectivity between a client and a server and designing a LAN topology using a switch and 10 PCs. It includes detailed tasks for configuring IP addresses on the server and PCs, as well as steps for creating the LAN topology in Cisco Packet Tracer. The conclusion confirms that the connections between the devices are functioning correctly.

Laboratory Experiment # 3

Department of Computer Science

BS (Software Engineering)
SE-3001L (Computer Networks)
Spring 2023

Objectives

 To establish connectivity between a client and a server

 To design a LAN Topology using a switch attached to 10 PCs

1) Establish Connectivity between a Client & Server

Figure 2: Topology Diagram

Task –1, Configure Server
Configure Server-Pt with the following
IP address: 192.168.1.254
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Click on the Server-PT icon Then Select from the Upper menu “Desktop” After selecting the
Desktop select “IP CONFIGURATION”. Place the above Address with respect to their names.

Task-2, IP Configuration on PC
Click on the PC-PT icon then select from the upper Menu “Desktop” After
selecting desktop, select IP CONFIGURATION. Place the following address

IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Task- 3, IP in URL
Go to the PC-PT icon then select from the upper Menu “Desktop” After selecting
desktop, clickon the “WEB BROWSER” place the following IP in the “URL”
192.168.1.254
When you hit enter a message will arrive “Welcome to Packet Tracer”

Task- 4, Command Prompt

Finally Again click on the PC-PT icon then select from the upper Menu “Desktop”
After selecting desktop, click on “Command Prompt” to check the connectivity
between the client & server putthe following command in Command Prompt
PC>ping 192.168.1.254

2) Designing a LAN Topology using a Switch attached to 10 PCs

Procedure:
Following steps are required to create LAN Tapology using a Switch

Step 1:
Open Cisco Packet Tracer from desktop.

Step 2:
Select Network Device (at bottom left) then select Switches and select a switch (2960) then drag
it to the interface window.
Step 3:
Now Select End Devices (at bottom left) then select Generic computer and drag it to the interface
window.

Step 4:
Repeat Step 3 9 times to drag 9 more End Devices.
Step 5:
Now select a Copper Straight-Through wire for Connection. Click connections (at bottom left)
then select Copper Straight-Through wire.

Step # 6
After selection click on switch and select any empty slot
Step # 7
And then click on any of the End Devices and select a slot to connect both.

Step 8:
Repeat Step 5 to connect all the End Devices to the Switch.
Step # 7:
 Set up the IPs of End Device.
 Click any of the pc to see its settings

Step # 8
● Select Desktop tab then IP configuration and set the id and Subnet Mask.
Step # 9:
Repeat Step 7 for all End Devices.

Step # 10:
Now rename all the End Devices to according to the IPs you have provided just click to
the name plate to change it.
Step # 11:
Now check the connection of any two ends devices.
● Click any End PC then at the desktop tab select run command

● Type PING along with the IP of any other End Device to check the connection.

Conclusion
The Connection is working fine between the intermediary devices.
Task # 1

 Design a LAN Topology with two switches and 10 End Devices, Configure Switches and
PCs with the same network IP Addresses, and then transmit a Packet from one end
device to another end device.
