Final Course Work
You are required to analyse and evaluate a performance to identify two strengths and two
weaknesses. You then need to produce an action plan that suggests ways to improve upon the two
weaknesses that you have identified. This work can be completed in either written or verbal format.
If it is completed verbally, then it must be evidenced by an audio-visual recording, which must be
available for moderation. Where this work has been carried out in written format, you must insert
the following details on each page of work as a header or footer:

Strengths
Describe 2 strengths of the performer/you and explain how these strengths lead to
improved levels of performance.
I need speed for football, especially as a left winger. Speed, is how fast you can get from
point a to b, plays a crucial part in my ability to get past a defender to get to the through
ball or too get back into position. This would give my team the advantage of transitioning
into defence to attack, with me getting onto the through balls, and transitioning into
attack to defence, by me getting back into position.
In a recent game against Crawley speed was crucial when my teammate misplaced a
lobbed pass and it was going out for a goal kick, speed allowed me to get to the ball in
time, play a back pass to my forward in the box, who went on to score. The reason why
speed is a strength is because I have got acceleration, starting power and good fitness
levels to continue running fast for the whole game. This allows my team to depend on
giving me lob and through balls for the duration of the whole game. If I did not have a
high level of speed then I would make my team loss the ball many times and it would
leave gaps in our defence.
In a different game, a year ago, against Woking speed was a crucial factor for my team.
when the midfielder in my team lost the ball in the last minute and the opposition player
played a through ball to set up his attacker for a clear 1 on 1 with the keeper. I used my
speed to run all the way back quicker then my teammates and the opposition. With my
speed I was able to make the last-ditch tackle to block the shot, this allowed my team to
win the game. The reason why my speed is a strength and more improved then others is
because I have nailed down the technique of how to run faster. This consists of swinging
your arms, body position and how you move your legs.
I need to have a high level of dribbling, which is staying on the ball while moving it around
the pitch, for a left winger to get past a defender in a 1v1. Having a high level of dribbling
allowed me to get into situations to where I could shoot the ball and score, which has
helped my team win multiple games.

In a recent game against Horsham fc my dribbling was crucial whilst I had to get passed a
goalkeeper on a 1v1 situation, if I get passed him I can just tap the ball in and win the
game for my team. The reason my dribbling is a strength is because of my control and my
footwork is near perfect which allows the ball to basically stick to my feet. The impact of
using my dribbling skills to my advantage was that it allowed me to get past the last
defender. This allowed me to create a 2v1 situation against the goalkeeper. This helped
my team as it created an easy goalscoring opportunity where I could pass my teammate
the ball and he would tap it in. if my dribbling was a strength then I wouldn’t be able to
get passed the defender and create a goalscoring opportunity
During a second game against Three bridges my dribbling was crucial when I had to
dribble past the defenders in my own half to build momentum for my team and to release
pressure. The reason why my dribbling is a strength in this example was that it allowed
my team to push forward and release pressure on my teams’ defenders, I was able to get
past the opposition defenders because of my tight control on the ball. The impact of using
my dribbling to my advantage is that it allowed my team to push forward, build
momentum which could later on lead to a goalscoring opportunity. if I didn’t have my
dribbling as an advantage then I would’ve lost the ball in my own half, which later on
would lead to a lot of pressure on my teammate and could lead to a goal for the
opposition. staying on the ball while moving it around the pitch. staying on the ball

Weaknesses
Describe 2 weaknesses of the performer/you and explain how these weaknesses lead to
decreased levels of performance.
I need excellent muscular endurance for my sport, especially playing as a right winger as I
would need to use it when I make runs in between defenders, a run on a through ball or a
sprint to defend an opposition attack.

opposition team to create multiple counter attack, steal lots of loose balls which would
lead to my team cracking under the enormous amount pressure and conceding a goal. If
my weakness was a strength then I would help my team defend, get onto through balls
and hopefully provide my team a goal.
In a recent game against Fungate, my shooting was a weakness when our team was losing,
my teammate passed me the ball for a tap in and I shot it wide. The reason my shooting
was a weakness was that I could have equalised and relieved some pressure on my team.
With me failing to score my teammates got annoyed, I was second guessing myself which
made me play even worse. I did not have the right technique to perform a simple tap in,
the fine skill that felt simple, but was actually a really complex skill. Hitting the ball with
the right power, looking at the goalkeeper and defenders’ positions, the trajectory of the
ball and the right swing of my leg are all parts that play into making the perfect shot. The
impact of my shooting being a weakness was that we ended up losing that game by 1 goal.
That miss prevented me from taking a lot of shots for the next few games as a I kept
second guessing myself as I wasn’t confident enough to perform this skill. If I was able to
perform this shot, I would be able to secure my team a point or maybe even a win, as I
would’ve motivated my teammates and I wouldn’t have doubts for the upcoming games.
During a game last season against Brighton my shooting was a weakness during the whole
duration of the game. I would try to shoot, and either because of poor form or wrong
timing, my shots would either go wide or had no power at all. The reason why my
pg. 5

shooting was a weakness was in this example was that I either hit the ball on the wrong
side, not in the middle (which generates the most power) or I would hit the ball with no
technique, which forced it to have no power at all and the goalkeeper could easily save it.
Because of my knock knees it is harder for me to hit the ball with perfect technique, so
now whenever I shoot the technique is mediocre, and the shot is slow but precise, which
is still easily saved by the opposition goalkeeper. The impact of my shooting being a
weakness was that it caused me to have many doubts about myself, which depleted my
confidence as a football player, which caused me to play very poorly for the rest of the
season. This caused my team to lose many games without me, as I was the core assister. If
I could’ve had good shooting then I would be able to score many goals for my team, which
then would lead to us winning the game and the league. I wouldn’t have any doubts and
my confidence wouldn’t have hindered

Action Plan
Identify an appropriate training type to improve the fitness weakness with a full description of one
training session that that could be used for the performer. Include an explanation of prolonged use
of the identified training type could improve the fitness weakness.
Interval training involves alternating between periods of hard exercises and rest. It
improves speed but especially muscular endurance.
Football is a game that lasts 90 minutes (in certain times it can even last 120 minutes plus
extra time) so it is really important that I can keep working at a high level without my
muscles fatiguing, which leads to me performing worse than I am capable. Muscular
endurance was my weakness so I feel that Interval training is suitable, as it will allow for a
soaring improvement in Muscular endurance to occur.
Interval training will suit me as it’s easy to carry out and doesn’t require any specialist
equipment. I will create routes using mapping tools online which covers where I will be

running and I will use my apple watch to monitor my heart rate, intensity and the
distances I run. Football is a sport that requires a lot of running and so its appropriate.
Football is a mixture of long distance and short distance sprinting, it will help me build up
my muscular endurance which will help me perform at a high level and intensity for the
whole match by not getting tired within the game. It will also help my recovery rates as I
will have a better aerobic metabolism, which increases my energy, and decreases the
amount of lactic acid. The routes will involve straight and hilly roads, as I will change my
pace according to time and distance, which will fatigue my legs even more but make them
stronger in the long run because of the slight intensity increases over time.
My fitbit will help me to monitor my heart rate but being a continuous aerobic and
anaerobic zone, I will start my training at 60-70% but then I will be aiming for 80-90%
training zone.
MHR=220-15=205
I will complete a thorough warm up that will include 2 parts; the pulse raiser and
stretches. As this is fitness I will not require a sport related element to my warm up. My
pulse raiser will consist of raising my heart rate gradually by fast paced walking, slight
jogging, side stepping, squats and lunges. My stretches will involve holding stretches for
between 10 and 45 seconds. The major muscles groups that I have to stretch is the
quadriceps, hamstrings and gastrocnemius but I also have to stretch out my upper body
for full maximum mobility.
I will wear the correct clothing for the weather but that doesn’t restrict my techniques. I
will also wear trainers and socks that fit comfortably. I will sprint for a minimum for 20
seconds, run at normal pace for 5 minutes and walk in between for 1 minutes. In later
sessions I will increase the sprint and running time.
Specific – I will try use the correct running action while training, as it will benefit me in my
speed in football. I will try sprint distances, that I will usually sprint in a real game, so my
muscles will get used to sprinting those distances so I will become less tired in a game.
Progressive Overload- I will try to increase my heartrate every 2 weeks or every month in
training. I will do this by increasing the intensity, length or by decreasing the time I have
to rest in interval training. I will try do this training every other day, so my muscles have
time to rest. The intensity will increase over some periods of time. I will start of only
training for 20 minutes, but over time I will increase the length every 1 or 2 weeks.
My cool down will involve either walking or a light jog to maintain the elevated breathing
and heart rate, this will gradually decrease the intensity, which will lower my heart rate.
Then I will do stretches, 1 minute per stretch to get all the lactic acid and CO2 waste out of
my body. Stretching will also prevent DOMS.

Skill/tactic/strategy/aspect of choreography
Identify and explain how a relevant part of your learnt specification content, which when applied,
could bring about improvement of the 2nd weakness.
Research has shown that at approximately a 45-degree angle is optimal. This is because an
increased angled approach allows the hip of the striking leg to rotate more, causing a
larger striking surface area of the foot, therefore a faster ball speed and improved
accuracy in a shot. I will train every day on striking the ball at a 45-degree angle so it
becomes second nature to me and will stay in my long-term muscle memory. This will
allow me to strike the ball in the game without thinking of how to do it, with the
increased shot power and accuracy I will be scoring more goals in the following seasons.
One way I will use technology in football is by using a speed gun to measure how fast my
shots are. This machine will allow me to know what is the fastest type of shot, where do I
have hit the ball to get maximum power and if I’m improving my shot power over a period
of time. One way I will incorporate fitness training in improving my shooting is I will do
various sets of dribbling with the ball around cones and then shooting. I will create
different dribbling paths, I will make all the training match related, I will try different type
of shots and at different places. This will allow me to perform and score goals from
different places. This will also help with my muscular endurance and muscle memory of
how to dribble efficiently. Im going to collect data by writing how many of my shots go in,
I will be making 1000 shots a day and my coach will write down how many went in. he will
also be measuring the speed of the ball. This will allow me to see my improvement which

will help me mentally and will drastically motivate me to become even better. By doing all
this training, I am strengthening my muscle memory of being on the ball, shooting and
technique. This will help me in game as I won’t need to think and waste precious seconds
on what to do, I will be able to dribble or perform crucial shots as if it was second nature.
This will make me become confident in my performances and skills which will hopefully
make me self-motivated and perform and train better than my competitors. After and
before training I will be eating lots of fruit and nuts, s they have a lot of natural sugar and
fibre (this will give me natural energy for a long period of time and decrease my risk of
heart disease). I will be eating a lot of meat for protein (which will repair my muscles
quicker).i will not eat any junk food, sweets or fizzy drinks because the high amount of
saturated sugar will make me tired, lazy in my muscles and mentally, which will make me
stop going training and will make me stay home and procrastinate.
My chosen area of weakness for shooting to soft or making the shot go wide
causes my team to lose is arousal control. Arousal is defined as a physical and
mental state of alertness/readiness varying from deep sleep to intense
excitement/alertness. In my case my arousal often dhows in how focused, excited
aggressive and alert I am. Every skill in football has a perfect level of arousal- called
the optimum point. I can be over or under aroused depending on the skill needed.
The perfect arousal level is known as the optimal point as shown in the Inverted U
model. With specific reference to shooting, I do believe that I am often over
aroused when I go for a shot. I go for a shot, knowing that if I score I will become
the hero of my team and maybe get a trial to play for a pro team, which is a lot of
pressure. In mu weakness, I am to worried about the future and the outcome and I
lose focus of technique and my calmness and happiness turns into fear and
unworthiness. Missing the goal can have a massive effect on my game as I may be
the reason why my team didn’t win. By working on my arousal, I think I can
improve my performance when shooting in the future. I am going to use two
arousal control techniques: deep breathing and mental rehearsal.
Deep breathing is when you take multiple deep breaths. People in all areas do this
to get rid of doubt, anxiety and fear. I will use this whenever I feel that I am letting
my team down, maybe from a missed pass, shot or tackle.
Mental rehearsal is a technique, which involves picturing the perfect performance in your
head. For a weakness like shooting, I will envision me scoring multiple goals form different
positions. I will picture me getting into that position also.
I can use match related training drill to replicate the match experience. I can do this by 1V1
my friend or doing a 2V1 or dribbling through cones and shooting.
