Procedure A. Opening
1. Motivation (Engage):
o Show a quick math puzzle or riddle related to triangles and
angles.
o Ask: How can we make complicated trigonometric expressions
simpler?
2. Lesson Objectives (Explain)
o Introduce the objectives and explain the importance of
trigonometric identities in simplifying expressions and solving
equations.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Definition and Introduction
Define trigonometric identities as equations involving trigonometric
functions that are true for all values within their domain.
Highlight why identities are useful in mathematics and real-life
applications like physics and engineering.
Write the Pythagorean Identity on the board:
2 2
sin θ+ co s θ=1
Explain how it is derived from the unit circle.
2. Exploration
Derive the following identities step by step with the class:
o Quotient Identities
o Reciprocal Identities:
1 1 1
cs c θ= , se c θ= , co t θ=
si n θ co s θ ta nθ
Class Activity:
Provide simple expressions for students to simplify using the identities.
si nθ co s θ
Example problem: Simplify +
co s θ si n θ
3. Practice and Application
Students work in pairs to verify given trigonometric identities.
Example tasks:
1. Prove that 1+ tan2 θ=sec 2 θ
2. Simplify the expression csc 2 θ−cot2 θ
Walk around to assist and provide feedback.
Valuing Let the students try to find a way to solve the 6 trigonometric functions
without using a calculator.
Let them use the calculator after.
Let the students create a comparison and reflect on the nature of the
calculator's significance.
Find the 6 trigonometric ratios of the following.
si nθ co s θ
1. Simplify: ∙
Assessment/ co s θ si n θ
Application 2. Prove that tanθ⋅cotθ=1
3. Prove
