EPISODE 9 SCENE 1

SFX: Music is heard faintly

SFX: Footsteps. Running.

RAT: Oh please run faster! It is coming to claim you!

DAN: Get me a faster body next time you cut me open! And it’s coming for all of us! And where
are we running to? There’s only one way out?

SFX: Rat stops suddenly

RAT: Oh.

SFX: A pause as the Music gets slightly louder.

DAN: Shit. Suit?

SUIT (CAROLINE): I… would not know.

DAN: Ok, so if we can’t outrun these things, we can, I don’t know, fight them somehow, do they-

RAT: Fight? (Giggling) These things are immaterial and powerful and the closer they get to you
the more you hear the Music and then the music is in you and then the music controls you and
then you are their’s. Oh, but through this door!

SFX: Rat opens a door

DAN: Do the-

SFX: A thump as Rat flings himself on the window

DAN: No, apparently the windows don’t open.

SFX: Rat flings himself at the window again and again

SUIT (CAROLINE): You will not succeed in that manner.

RAT: Oh, I wouldn’t say that!

SUIT (CAROLINE): The windows are reinforced. Often when I was malfunctioning, I would hit
my head repeatedly on the glass to no effect.
RAT: Oh, I’m sure you didn’t throw your [grunts] body into it.

SUIT (CAROLINE): I am significantly stronger than you.

SFX: Ratty continues to throw himself against the window

SFX: The Music gets louder

DAN: Suit, uhm, Caroline, could you… try?

SUIT (CAROLINE): … I will attempt

SFX: Suit kicks the window a few times, grunting

SUIT (CAROLINE): It is useless, Daniel Powell. Perhaps we could break a mirror? It is

mentioned in Davenport’s notes that-

RAT: That’s a superstition and it doesn’t work and it is a waste of-

DAN: Rat!

SFX: Rat stops throwing himself at the window.

RAT: Oh, yes?

DAN: Ok, this is going to be, kind of, out there, but you know how, uhm, I, can tune in to
different frequencies? Do you think I could emit-

RAT: Oh! Oh oh oh! Let us attempt. Dan, you will need to push your body right up against the
glass.

SFX: Dan presses himself on the glass

DAN: Here?

RAT: No just a little-

DAN: [Grunts] This is… a bit uncomfortable.

RAT: Hopefully it will not take too long.

SFX: Music gets a bit louder

SUIT (CAROLINE): Hopefully.

DAN: So if you tune…

RAT: Oh yes, but we’ll have to-

SFX: Tape static

DAN: God!

RAT: Sorry, sorry, tried to go just a bit too fast now. Now, I think it’s best if you open your mouth
as wide as possible…

SFX: Almost musical frequencies change and tune

DAN: [Screams]

RAT: Oh, try and keep it musical!

SFX: Tune in and tune in until finally the resonant frequency of the glass is found

SFX: Glass begins to crack

RAT: Dan, louder!

SFX: Frequency becomes louder

SFX: Glass shatters

SFX: Silence

SFX: Wind

DAN: Ah!

RAT: Oh, do not do that!

SFX: Dan begins to fall

SFX: Suit grabs Dan

SUIT (CAROLINE): I have you.

SFX: DAN is pulled back into the building

DAN: Thanks Caroline… now how do we get down?

SFX: Music becomes louder

RAT: Oh, I believe they’re inside, we should hasten and move quickly!

DAN: I’m not just going to jump down? And I’m pretty sure I can’t use my-

SUIT (CAROLINE): Here

SFX: Suit shoves Rat and Dan under her arms

DAN: What are you doing? Don’t pick me, let me go! Why-

RAT: Oh, are you going to-

SUIT (CAROLINE): Refrain from moving [deep breath]

SFX: Footsteps

SFX: Suit jumps off of the window

SFX: Wind whooshing

DAN: [Screams]

SFX: Thud, bone shattering

SFX: Tape weirdness

SFX: Ringing… fade in on...

DAN: Suit! Sui… Caroline! Your legs they’re...

SUIT (CAROLINE): My legs are broken, Daniel Powell.

DAN: Why did you do that? We could have-

SUIT (CAROLINE): We had no rope. And we were being chased by a force looking to do us
harm.

RAT: (to himself, dejectedly) I scraped my knee

DAN: Ok, but, you can’t walk, I’ll… I’ll carry you.
SFX: Suit gets up

SUIT (CAROLINE): That will not be necessary. I do not exactly feel pain, and this flesh is…
sturdy.

RAT: I helped make it that way!

SUIT (CAROLINE): The creature is correct. Suffice it to say, we should be going.

SFX: Music picks up

RAT: Oh, but where should be head to? The city is so interesting and wonderful and dangerous
and the Music will follow us anywhere and they will try to claim you!

DAN: Uhm, the radio station, they’re different entities, the messenger and the curator, maybe
the music will be drowned out by… Rat, why are they trying to claim me in particular?

(A beat)

DAN: Rat?

RAT: It was difficult to procure materials for…

DAN: Rat!

SFX: Music picks up again, slightly

SUIT (CAROLINE): I suggest we return to this conversation at a later time.

RAT: Oh, yes, let’s!

DAN: Fine!

RAT: Come on, let’s run!

SFX: Rat, starts to take off

(A beat)

SUIT (CAROLINE): Daniel Powell, why are you not running?

DAN: The landscape, it’s all roads. I didn’t think it would be like this. Sorry, I-
SUIT (CAROLINE): It is… an abomination. Come. I do not want to die in it.

SFX: Dan and Suit start running.

SFX: Tape static, time has passed

DAN: [Grunts in pain] God, I think that fall, might have dislodged something in my, my body.

RAT: Oh no no no! We should stop and take a look at you and fix you!

SUIT (CAROLINE): I believe the Music is gaining ground.

DAN: Shit. Come on.

SFX: More running

SFX: Music gains on them

DAN: We’re not going to beat them in a straight race! Can we hide? Or-

RAT: Oh, they’ll find us. They don’t have eyes.

SFX: Off in the distance screamed notes.

SUIT (CAROLINE): This is… an unfortunate development.

RAT: Perhaps we should run towards the music? They most likely want to bring us to their
master and then kill us rather than killing us now. That is most likely the case for you.

(A beat)

SFX: Both the screams and the music get louder

DAN: No, we run towards the screamers.

SUIT (CAROLINE): Daniel Powell-

DAN: We run towards them and sing, they don’t bother you if you’re singing, and then that’ll
throw the music off of our tail. The music is under the curator’s control but the screamers, they
aren’t yet, they will be, but they aren’t yet.

RAT: Oh. What song would you like to sing. I do not know many songs after the mid-90s.

SUIT (CAROLINE): I will attempt to sing along.

DAN: Uhm, how about… this?

RAT: Oh, I like that one!

DAN: Ok, uhm, towards the screamers…

SFX: Dan starts singing the song, weakly, as they walk towards the screamers, Rat and Suit
join in soon, the note singers surround them, but aside from a heightened note of fear in the
singing voices, nothing changes. Soon, the screaming subsides.

(A beat)

DAN: I think… we’re ok. God, I [vomits]

RAT: Oh, a wonderful plan Dan! Great job!

DAN: They were just… they were disintegrated.

SUIT (CAROLINE): (softly) I was not aware that I remembered that song.

RAT: So, on to the radio station?

DAN: That was the plan… come on, it probably won’t stop them for long

SFX: They start running

DAN: So, Caroline, are you starting to remember-

SUIT (CAROLINE): Flashes. I remember hating this… the very idea that there was a place like
this. If you require more information about my past, perhaps you should ask the monster next to
you.

RAT: Oh, now that would spoil the surprises and I wouldn’t-

DAN: Rat! I am-

SFX: In the distance Music grows louder, it seems like people are screaming it now

DAN: Oh god!

SUIT (CAROLINE): It would appear your plan had the opposite effect

DAN: Run!
SFX: Music grows

DAN: Where is that damn radio station?

RAT: Things shift in the city, I thought-

SFX: Music grows louder until it drowns out everything

SFX: Tape weirdness

EPISODE 9 SCENE 2

SFX: Tape weirdness montage

SFX: Silence

DAN: (His voice echoing) Hello? Is anyone…

SFX: Whispers

SFX: Dan’s footsteps

DAN: Hey who was that? Caroline? Rat? Where are you?

SFX: Whispers in the distance

DAN: … where am I?

(A beat)

DAN: Caroline, Caroline is that you?

SFX: Dan’s footsteps as he rushes towards her

SFX: Whispers get louder

DAN: Caroline, I can’t see-

SFX: Whispers get louder and louder until they resolve into-

COMPUTER VOICE: Purity. Purity. Purity. Purity. Purity. Purity.

EPISODE 9 SCENE 3
SUIT (CAROLINE): [Screams]

SFX: Whispers get louder then grow silent

SFX: Dan and Suit gasp for breath.

DAN: Caroline, are you, what was that?

SUIT (CAROLINE): I believe that was something from my past, Daniel Powell.

DAN: Do you remember-

SUIT (CAROLINE): No. Not completely.

(A beat)

SUIT (CAROLINE): It appears we are in… I am not entirely sure how to describe it.

DAN: Darkness.

SUIT (CAROLINE): Yes. We should attempt to find a way out of this.

DAN: And find Rat.

SUIT (CAROLINE): We should attempt to find a way out of this. You are being kind to that thing
when he has been extremely cruel to the both of us. Come. We will head towards the whispers.

SFX: They walk in silence for a bit, the whispers gradually getting louder.

SUIT (CAROLINE): Daniel Powell, why exactly are you so kind to that… creature?

(A beat)

DAN: I feel like he’s confused. And if I ever become something… something like him, I’d want to
be treated, you know, kindly.

SUIT (CAROLINE): We will never become something like him. We were modified by force. He
chose to forget who he was.

DAN: How do you know-

SFX: Whispers become loud again

SUIT (CAROLINE): Come. Concentrate

EPISODE 9 SCENE 4

SFX: Whispers become louder and louder until they coalesce into…

RAT: [Singing the Visser song at the top of his lungs]

RAT: [Screams]

RAT: Oh, you are here! Or visions of you are? Or one of you is a vision and the other one is
real? Or perhaps I am the vision and-

SUIT (CAROLINE): Hello, Rat.

DAN: Rat, do you have any idea where here is?

RAT: Oh, I am not quite sure, but I suppose-

SFX: Whispers grow very loud very rapidly until they coalesce into...

SFX: Magic power sound

DAN: Clara! Lou!

CLARA: Dan!

LOU: Shit, how are you here?

CLARA: We kept walking, like you said, and the exhibits got, more, uhm-

LOU: Freakier

CLARA: And then all of a sudden we were in darkness and-

SFX: Whispering picks up and coalesces into...

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Hello and welcome to the museum. I am the
representative of the curator.

SFX: Silence as the rep’s footfalls walk over to them.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Now, I believe we haven’t had the chance to be
properly introduced. Please, in a circle, won’t you tell me your names?
CLARA: Clara.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Nice to see you again, Clara. I did so enjoy
watching you in the contest.

LOU: Uhm, I’m Lou. Hello.

RAT: (Giggling) You don’t know my name!

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: (With disdain) I am aware of who you are.

RAT: They call me Rat now!

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Apt.

(A beat)

SUIT (CAROLINE): Caroline.

RAT: [Gasps happily] Oh.

DAN: I’m Daniel Powell. And Rat said that you were going to claim something from me.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: A pleasure to make your acquaintances. And in

due time, in due time. As I have said, I am the representative of the curator, and as his
representative I have-

LOU: Where’s your boss?

DAN: (Same time) Lou!

CLARA: (Same time) Quiet!

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Excuse me?

LOU: Your boss, the curator, if you’re his representative, then I want to talk to one on one, man
to man.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Lou. You’ve met the curator.

LOU: I-
THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: This is the curator. The curator and the museum
are the same entity. We are currently inside my employer. In the “room of uncollected voices” to
be exact. Not the most noteworthy collection, but a good meeting place nonetheless.

DAN: Lou, this thing is… old. There are records of this… thing back in Ur.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Correct, Daniel Powell. This objects within my
employer are significant. Important. Which brings us to the contest.

SFX: Whispers pick up

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: You did not follow the rules of the contest.

CLARA: What rules? You didn’t say I couldn’t have help!

(A beat)

SFX: Whispers sound somehow angry

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Even if you did not break the letter of the law,
you certainly broke the spirit. Thus, you will not be receiving a boon. Not that it would have been
possible anyway, the only way out of the city is through the power of these beings, containing
that in an object would be… [starts to vomit]

LOU: What’s he-

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Ah, excuse [vomits]

CLARA: Ugh

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Excuse me [vomits profusely]

SFX: A tape clatters on the ground

(A beat)

RAT: Oh, do you need a napkin, I don’t have one, but you could use my sleeve!

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: I will be quite alright. I have simply received a
message from my employer…

SFX: Rep bends down and picks up the tape

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: In the form of a tape. Strange. Ah-

DAN: Damnit.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Daniel Powell, would you mind?

DAN: I… really don’t want that thing inside me.

SFX: Whispering picks up

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: I would prefer not to be forced to ask again,
Daniel Powell.

(A beat)

DAN: [Sighs]

SFX: Walks over to the Rep.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Wonderful, now do I-

DAN: I’ll put it in.

SFX: Dan puts the tape in

SFX: Tape weirdness

EPISODE 9 SCENE 5

SFX: The museum song plays

SFX: Tape weirdness

SFX: Dan is transported

SFX: Museum song plays in background

DAN: I’m… I’m.

THE CURATOR: We should have a chance to talk/converse/discuss

DAN: You’re-

THE CURATOR: You know who I am/was/will be forever and ever.

DAN: Where exactly am I?

THE CURATOR: You are here/everywhere/inside me. We have an object/possession/claim to

discuss.

DAN: Rat mentioned that you wanted to claim something from me. He’d been hinting, but, but...

THE CURATOR: To create your current form/being/holiness, the creature… borrowed… certain
objects from my collection/being/self.

DAN: You want my body back? I don’t think I could survive without-

THE CURATOR: Not at all. You were an incubation/nest/pregnancy and you are about to
hatch/open/give birth.

SFX: Weird cracking sound

DAN: No. No, no, that can’t

THE CURATOR: Yes, now, give the child/being/god

SFX: Weird birthing sound, weird tape thing, mixed with Dan’s screams

THE CURATOR: Ah, how beautiful/holy/transcendent.

SFX: Mewling cries

DAN: What is that thing, it’s, it’s...

THE CURATOR: It is sound/light/child. You are not capable of knowing exactly what you have
conceived. Daniel Powell. There are many like us. Leviathans/gods/beings. But only a few are
interested in humanity. That will change. Now there is an opening/portal/doorway that will
change. It is best to be prepared/ready/powerful. Now, back inside me/museum/collection.

DAN: [screams]

SFX: Song ends and Dan pops the tape out

EPISODE 9 SCENE 6

CLARA: Dan, what happened? Are you alright?

RAT: Oh yes, what exactly transpired and took place and happened?
DAN: What did it look like from your end?

LOU: Mate, you screamed, then you like, glowed, and bloody hell, and then, yeah, that was
pretty much it.

(a beat)

DAN: I think I kind of gave birth.

(A beat)

CLARA: Dan, are you-

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: The nature of what transpired is not for you to
know. Now, as for the rest of you, the curator has decided that it will leave you unharmed if you
offer up… a token. An apology in object.

(A beat)

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Suggestions are welcome.

DAN: Well I just gave up whatever that was.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: That certainly does not count.

CLARA: How about our radio? Or backpacks? Anything from our gear?

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Hmmmm, you’ll have to be far more interesting
than that, Clara.

RAT: Oh, do you want some blood? Or other bodily fluid? Because I have several.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: No.

DAN: Do you want more of my tape machine?

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: I believe The Curator has had quite enough of
that.

DAN: Then I don’t really have anything to give…

(A beat)

DAN: Caroline?
SUIT (CAROLINE): Even if I were in possession of something relevant, I would not deal with
this creature.

(A beat)

SFX: Whispers gather up again

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Well, if you have nothing interesting to offer, I’m
afraid I will-

LOU: Give me a ship.

(A beat in stunned silence)

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: I don’t believe that’s an-

LOU: Give me a ship and will explore the furthest corners of this world for you.

CLARA: Lou-

LOU: You don’t know what’s out there, do you? Dan, you listened to those tapes about the
ocean, they don’t know?

DAN: I don’t, think so…

LOU: So give me a ship and I’ll explore. Whatever I can find, whatever’s you know, valuable or
precious, I’ll bring back. Maybe there’s nothing out there, but maybe there’s a whole world. This
place is dangerous, but it’s also, shit, it’s also magic.

RAT: Danger and beauty and wonder and death

CLARA: Lou, you can’t seriously think about doing this? You will never be able to come home!
How many actual people do you think live in the weird places of this weird as hell place?

(A beat)

LOU: Why would I want to go home? Home’s been explored already.

DAN: Are you sure about this?

LOU: Of course.

CLARA: No, no no I will not just-

SFX: Whispers get louder

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Excuse me. [vomits]

SFX: Tape splatters on the floor

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Daniel Powell, if you would. I believe we will
have our answer.

CLARA: (Whispering to Lou) I can’t believe you would just-

LOU: I’m not just-

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CURATOR: Silence, please.

SFX: Dan takes the tape and puts it in his body

EPISODE 9 SCENE 7

SFX: The museum’s song, louder and more impactful, faster and more foreboding.

SFX: A montage of whispers accompanying the song

SFX: The song is joined in with ocean sounds, the sound of ships, of waves, of the high seas,
until it becomes one.

SFX: The music fades out until just the ocean and ship are heard

LOU: Hey mate

DAN: Why’d you… why’d you go?

LOU: Come on mate, this place is the final untouched continent. Like I’m not going to explore
that.

DAN: But it’s not-

SFX: The wind picks up in the sails

LOU: The wind’s picking up Dan, got to go. I hope you get back home, wherever that is for
you…

SFX: Lou’s voice fades out as the boat and ocean sounds get louder
SFX: Museum song picks up

SFX: Tape weirdness

EPISODE 9 SCENE 8

SFX: Silence

SFX: Water lapping on the shore, voices fade in

CLARA: I can’t believe he did that! Idiot!

RAT: Oh, but he will get to explore new and dangerous and wonderful places. Maybe. Or he will
die horribly. Perhaps both!

CLARA: Just… shut up.

SUIT (CAROLINE): I agree. The creature should refrain from speaking.

DAN: (Quietly) Guys

RAT: Oh, but I don’t want to refrain from speaking!

DAN: (little louder) Guys

SUIT (CAROLINE): I have no interest in what you want or desire-

DAN: Guys!

(A beat)

DAN: Where are we?

CLARA: We’re at the river, I think. Maybe where the river meets the ocean? I remember it, it’s
just shore and sand and fog. It feels like it goes on forever.

RAT: Oh, perhaps it does! In a sense.

SUIT (CAROLINE): More importantly, where exactly should we go?

(A beat)

DAN: Home
CLARA: Dan…

DAN: No, we can get there. We just need to… Melody. Melody would know.

CLARA: Who the hell is Melody?

DAN: That’s a bit complicated.

SUIT (CAROLINE): She was an employee of LMG in 1996, her current whereabouts are
unknown.

RAT: Oh, she made tapes and stopped a god for a while and made a lot of people including me
very mad.

(A beat)

DAN: Wait, how the hell do you two know about Melody?

SUIT (CAROLINE): I do not remember.

RAT: Oh, you know me, secrets and mysteries and sometimes I lose myself in the quest for
answers and truth and strange new power. And I listened to the podcast, remember? Oh, and
can I just say, Dan, you are positively glowing.

DAN: Rat shut up. You let that thing put that thing inside my body!

CLARA: Dan, do you… are you ok?

DAN: I’m fine! I don’t know what the hell came out of my body, but… ok. Melody stopped one of
these things, a being like the curator, from going into the world. But that didn’t last long and
anyway, she lives here now, and she was able to bring someone from our world to come and
live with her. So, maybe…

(A beat)

CLARA: Well, it’s better than going to the radio station. Those people aren’t fully, I’m not going
to live with them. So…

SUIT (CAROLINE): How exactly will we get there, Daniel Powell?

DAN: I’m not… exactly sure. I’m guessing she lives kind of near the goblin market, but…
CLARA: The boatwoman. She just got us across the river last time, but if Melody’s near the
river, she can take us there. It’ll probably be a higher price.

RAT: Oh, and we should make sure not to stiff her!

CLARA: Come on, follow me.

SFX: Footsteps

DAN: How will-

CLARA: She’ll come eventually. When we need her.

SFX: Footsteps, walking

CLARA: So, Suit, are you, you know, empty?

SUIT (CAROLINE): I am… beginning to be myself.

CLARA: Oh shit. How’d that happen.

SUIT (CAROLINE): They were never fully successful in removing my soul from my body. I am
not sure that operation can ever be truly successful.

RAT: Oh, it’s-

SUIT (CAROLINE): I will kill the creature if need be.

(A beat)

DAN: Clara, uhm, you ok with, Lou, and being out here all…

CLARA: I’ll manage.

(A beat)

CLARA: Fuck this place.

SUIT (CAROLINE): I agree.

CLARA: Look.

DAN: The boatwoman

RAT: Oh, she is just like I imagined her! All grey and like a statue and so old and young at the
same time and her eyes are as grey as clouded water! Hurry!

SFX: Footsteps

DAN: (whispered) Is there anything I should know about her?

CLARA: (whispered) Same thing you told me. Just make sure to pay the price.

EPISODE 9 SCENE 9

SFX: Footsteps, water is constant

BOATWOMAN: What is your… destination?

CLARA: We want to get to Melody?

BOATWOMAN: I can… take you near… her location… if that is what you wish.

DAN: Yes, yes, we want that.

BOATWOMAN: But it is a… long journey… longer than I am… accustomed to. The fare will
be… higher.

CLARA: We’ll pay it! We’ll think of something!

BOATWOMAN: Thank you… now… what do you have to… offer me. My arm… is outstretched.

SFX: Boatwoman puts her arm out, there’s something ancient about the sound

CLARA: My twenty-first birthday? Or my first kiss? I’m not, uhm, too attached to milestones.

BOATWOMAN: This is a... long journey… these memories are... not enough.

DAN: (Whispering) Shit, more bargaining?

BOATWOMAN: Sacrifice… is the only currency… anywhere.

RAT: Oh!

SFX: Rat scurries up to Boatwoman’s hand

SFX: Rat spits in Boatwoman’s hand

RAT: Would another bodily fluid work? I have several?

(A beat)

BOATWOMAN: No.

SUIT (CAROLINE): Perhaps we could leave the creature.

RAT: Mean!

BOATWOMAN: No.

DAN: I could… give up some memories? If it’ll help us get back. What would you, what would
you want?

BOATWOMAN: For you?

SFX: creaking as Boatwoman gazes towards Dan

BOATWOMAN: You are… unattached. Your memories are… not strong enough.

DAN: What? No, no! My memories are strong, I still-

CLARA: Dan. It’s ok. It’s no use arguing with her. She didn’t want mine either.

DAN: No, but-

SUIT (CAROLINE): What would you give for nine fingers? Not my own.

RAT: Oh!

SFX: Boatwoman creaking

BOATWOMAN: This will be… ah… these are powerful… I would like these… very much… an
exemplary payment.

DAN: Caroline! I know those are… you won’t have fingers!

SUIT (CAROLINE): I was crippled when the process began. I am simply releasing their hold on
me. I might require assistance with physical tasks in the future.

DAN: Jesus. (sigh) Of course, of course, whatever you need.

BOATWOMAN: Would you… like to cut… or should I… do the honors… I have a knife…
obsidian.

(A pause)

SUIT (CAROLINE): Daniel Powell?

DAN: I…

SFX: Boatwoman creaking, Dan takes the knife

SUIT (CAROLINE): Please, be careful, I am starting to feel pain again.

DAN: Ok, OK, just, this’ll be over soon…

SFX: Suit screaming as Dan cuts her fingers off. Should be long and drawn out. Dan should say
stuff like almost there, etc, but should be mostly drowned out by Suit’s screams.

DAN: There

SFX: Final finger is cut off

SUIT (CAROLINE): [Gasps]

DAN: Are you… alright?

SUIT (CAROLINE): I… am free. Thank you.

SFX: Rip

CLARA: To wrap your hands in. It’ll stop the bleeding.

SFX: Clara puts clothing on Suit’s hands

SUIT (CAROLINE): Thank you.

DAN: Here.

SFX: Dan puts nine fingers into Boatwoman’s outstretched hand

BOATWOMAN: That is… sufficient payment… climb aboard

SFX: Climbing aboard

DAN: Caroline, are you going to be ok?

SUIT (CAROLINE): Yes, Daniel Powell.

BOATWOMAN: We are… ready.

SFX: Boat pushes off

SFX: Waves lap, boat sounds, etc

RAT: Oh, how long is this going to take?

BOATWOMAN: Longer… than will be… comfortable for you

(A beat)

SFX: Screams in the distance, oddly musical

DAN: What the hell was that?

BOATWOMAN: That is… the screaming…

SFX: Screaming fades out

SFX: Tape weirdness

EPISODE 9 SCENE 11

GREEN WOMAN: Over. Soon.

SFX: More tape weirdness
