MANSUKHBHAI KOTHARI NATIONAL SCHOOL

ACADEMIC YEAR 2024-25

PRACTICE WORKSHEET -4

GRADE : IX DATE: 10/01/2025

SUBJECT:SCIENCE DAY: FRIDAY
TOPIC-MOTION TIME:40 MINUTES

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Complete the worksheet in the respective subject.

2. Finish the worksheet on the same day.
3. Answers will be provided next day. Check your answers with a black pen or pencil.
4. The worksheet carries 20 marks.
5. Completion of the worksheet is mandatory.
SECTIONA(1 marker)

1. Assertion (A): A body moving with a constant speed in a circular path is said to be
accelerating.
Reason (R): Acceleration is the rate of change of speed of a body.

1. Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.

2. Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A.
3. A is true, but R is false.
4. A is false, but R is true.

SECTION B(2 marker)

2. A train moves with a uniform velocity of 90 km/h for 1 hour and then stops for 30
minutes. It resumes its journey and travels at 60 km/h for the next 2 hours. Calculate the
average speed of the train for the entire journey.

3. A ball is dropped from a height of 45 m. If the acceleration due to gravity is 10 m/s2

calculate the time it takes to hit the ground.

SECTIONC(3 marker)

4. The graph given below is the velocity-time graph for a moving body. Find (i) velocity
of the body at point C (ii) acceleration acting on the body between A and B (iii)
acceleration acting on the body between B and C.
Q5. A cyclist accelerates from rest to a velocity of 6m/s in 4 seconds. Calculate the
acceleration of the cyclist. Also, determine the distance covered by the cyclist during this
time.

SECTION D –(5 mk)

Q6. A car accelerates uniformly from a speed of 10m/s to 30 m/s to 30m/s in 5 seconds. After
reaching this speed, it continues to move with a uniform velocity for 10 seconds and then
comes to rest in the next 5 seconds with uniform deceleration.

Questions:

1. Calculate the acceleration during the first 5 seconds.

2. Determine the distance covered during the uniform motion phase.
3. What is the total time of the journey?
4. Plot a graph for the above data.

SECTION E (4mk)

Case Study:

7.A student walks from her home to her school following a zigzag path. She starts by
walking 300 m north, then 400 m east, and finally 500 m south. The total time taken for the
journey is 30 minutes.

Questions:

1. What is the total distance traveled by the student?

2. What is the magnitude of the displacement between the student’s home and school?
3. Calculate the average speed of the student in meters per second.
4. Calculate the average velocity of the student in meters per second, considering the
magnitude and direction of the displacement.
