STORY
Once upon a time, in a small town, there was a student named Alex who
dreamed of success. But Alex knew that success doesn’t come easily—it requires
hard work.
Every morning, Alex woke up early and studied hard. While others were
sleeping, Alex was busy putting in the hard work needed to reach the top. But the
road wasn’t easy. There were times when Alex failed tests, struggled with lessons,
and even felt like giving up. But deep inside, Alex remembered an important lesson:
Never give up!
One day, there was a big competition in school. The winner would earn a
scholarship—a big step toward success! Alex trained day and night, practicing with
determination and putting in even more hard work. But as the competition day
arrived, Alex faced a tough challenge. The questions were difficult, and doubt started
to creep in.
For a moment, Alex thought about quitting, but then a voice inside whispered:
Never give up! So, Alex took a deep breath, focused, and gave it everything.
And guess what? Alex won! It was a moment of pure success! The hard
days, the sacrifices, and the moments of struggle were all worth it because success
comes to those who do the hard work and never give up!

THE GOOD BODY
Author’s Background
Eve Ensler is an American playwright, performer, and activist known for her works
that explore themes of gender, body image, and social issues. She studied at
Middlebury College and is widely recognized for The Vagina Monologues and The
Good Body, which critique cultural expectations imposed on women. She grew up in an
upper-middle-class household but faced personal struggles, which influenced her
feminist activism.
Literary Text
The Good Body critiques unrealistic beauty standards imposed by society,
particularly on women. It highlights the struggle for self-acceptance and the pressure to
conform to a specific body image. It presents a personal reflection on the pressures of
achieving an ideal body image imposed by society. The narrator struggles with self-
acceptance and questions the norms of beauty. Ensler uses humor and satire to
challenge body norms, making her message more accessible while still being critical of
societal pressures.
The Valley of Amazement
Author’s Background
Amy Tan is a Chinese-American writer best known for exploring themes of identity,
family, and cultural conflict. She holds a degree in English and Linguistics from San
Jose State University. Her novels, including The Joy Luck Club and The Valley of
Amazement, depict the struggles of women navigating tradition and self-discovery. As
the daughter of Chinese immigrants, she was deeply affected by her family's history,
which is reflected in her exploration of cultural identity in her works.
Literary Text
The Valley of Amazement explores self-identity, cultural expectations, and personal
transformation. It delves into the conflicts between tradition and individuality and the
journey of self-discovery. It follows a young girl’s journey of self-discovery as she
uncovers hidden aspects of her identity shaped by family and cultural expectations. Tan
employs rich storytelling, detailed character development, and historical context to
immerse readers in the struggles of self-discovery.

engage the reader’s emotions.

such as societal pressure and personal growth.
