Assignment of Open Channel

The assignment involves solving four open channel hydraulics problems related to trapezoidal and rectangular channels, including calculating dimensions for minimum lining, Chezy formula values, and estimating GVF profile lengths. Key parameters include discharge rates, bed slopes, and Manning's n values. Students are required to show their steps clearly in their solutions.

Open Channel Hydraulics Assignment for Civil 3rd Year.

Show your steps clearly

1. A lined trapezoidal section has one side vertical and the other side having a slope 1H:1V. The
channel has to deliver 8m3/sec when laid on a slope of 0.0002. What would be the dimensions of
the efficient section which requires minimum lining? Also calculate the corresponding mean
velocity if manning’s n is 0.015.

2. A channel has vertical walls 1.5m apart and semicircular invert. If the centerline depth is 1m
and the bed slope is 1 in 2500, what would be the value of C in the Chezy formula is the
discharge is 0.60 m3/sec?

3.What are the best dimensions y and B for a rectangular brick channel designed to carry 5m 3/sec
of water in uniform flow with S0 = 0.001, and n = 0.015?

4. A river 100 m wide and 3.0 m deep has an average bed slope of 0.0005. Estimate the length of
GVF profile produced by a low dam which raises the water surface just upstream if it by 1.50 m.
Assume n = 0.035.
