TEACHING-LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Preliminary Activities:
(Prayer, Greetings, Checking of Attendance, Setting
Rules, Motivational)

Engage (Get the students’ minds focused on the topic)

Activity 1: “GUESS THE PICTURE”
Direction: The teacher will display a picture on the screen,
and the students will identify what it is about and answer the
questions asked by the teacher.
1. What do you think it is?
2. Briefly explain what is Biodiversity?

EXPLORE (Discovering the lesson)

Activity 2: “WHERE I BELONG”
Direction: I have three printed pictures, each representing a
different type of biodiversity. Your task is to analyze each
picture and determine which type of biodiversity it represents.
I will provide a word box for you to choose your answer from.
I will display the pictures on the screen for you to identify.

1. 2.

3.

What do you think is our lesson for today?

EXPLAIN (Teach the concept)
Biodiversity and Its Types
Biodiversity refers to the variety of life on Earth, including all
living organisms, their genetic differences, and the
ecosystems they form.
It plays a crucial role
in maintaining balance
in nature, supporting
food chains, and
providing essential
ecosystem services
like air purification,
water filtration, and
climate regulation.
Biodiversity can be classified into three main types:
1. Species Diversity
 This refers to the variety of different species in a
particular area.
 A high species diversity means a healthy ecosystem
with many different types of organisms interacting.
 Example: A rainforest
has high species
diversity because it
contains many kinds
of plants, animals,
fungi, and
microorganisms.
2. Genetic Diversity
 This refers to the
differences in genes
within a species.
 A high genetic
diversity allows a species to adapt to changes in the
environment, such as diseases or climate changes.
 Example: Some crops, like rice or corn, have different
varieties with unique traits (e.g., drought-resistant or
pest-resistant types).
3. Ecosystem Diversity
 This refers to the variety of different ecosystems within
a region or the entire planet.
 A diverse range of ecosystems supports various
organisms and ecological processes.
 Example: The Earth has different ecosystems such as
forests, oceans, grasslands, and wetlands, each with
unique climate conditions and species.

Why is Biodiversity Important?

 It provides food, medicine, and raw materials.
 It helps maintain ecosystem stability and resilience.
 It supports natural processes like pollination, nutrient
cycling, and climate regulation.
Threats to Biodiversity
 Habitat destruction (e.g., deforestation, urbanization)
 Pollution (e.g., air, water, and soil pollution)
 Climate change (e.g., rising temperatures and extreme
weather)
 Overexploitation (e.g., hunting, fishing, and logging)
Protecting Biodiversity
 Conservation efforts (e.g., establishing protected
areas, reforestation)
 Sustainable practices (e.g., reducing waste,
responsible farming, and fishing)
 Raising awareness about biodiversity conservation
By understanding and protecting biodiversity, we ensure a
healthier planet for future generations. 🌍💚
ELABORATE (The students must apply the information they
learned in explain)
Activity 3: "BIODIVERSITY IN OUR DAILY LIVES" (THINK-
PAIR-SHARE)

 Ask students: “How do we benefit from biodiversity in

our daily lives?”
 Have them think individually for 2 minutes, then pair up
to discuss their answers.
 Let volunteers share their responses with the class
(e.g., biodiversity provides food like rice and fish,
medicines from plants, and clean air through forests).

EVALUATE (Assess what they learned)

A. True or False Questions
1. Genetic diversity refers to the variety of species in an
ecosystem.
2. A rainforest has high species diversity because it
contains many different kinds of organisms.
3. Overexploitation, such as overfishing and logging, is a
major threat to biodiversity.

B. Situational Questions
1. Your community plans to clear a forested area to build
new houses and roads. As a student, what would you
suggest to balance development and biodiversity
conservation?
2. You notice that a nearby river is polluted, affecting the
plants and animals living in and around it. What actions
can you take to help restore biodiversity in the area?

EXTEND (New concept and understanding)

"Be a Biodiversity Hero!" (Creative Poster-Making)

Each group will now design a poster promoting ways to

protect biodiversity based on what they learned.
 Posters must include:
o A slogan (e.g., "Save Trees, Save Lives!" or
"Protect Our Oceans!")
o An illustration of a conservation method (e.g.,
planting trees, reducing pollution, wildlife
protection)
o A short explanation of why their solution is
important.

 Groups will present their posters to the class and

display them in the classroom.
