Description This course provides a basic understanding of AC machinery
fundamentals, constructional features, operational analysis through
phasor diagrams, equivalent circuits ,determination of performance
parameters, testing and applications

Unit 1 Fundamentals of AC machine windings
A Physical arrangement of windings in stator and cylindrical rotor; CO1,CO6
slots for windings; single turn coil - active portion and overhang;
B full-pitch coils, concentrated winding, distributed winding, CO1
winding axis, 3D visualization of the above winding types
C Air-gap MMFdistributionwithfixedcurrentthroughwinding- CO1
concentrated and distributed, Sinusoidally distributed
winding, winding distribution factor
Unit 2 Synchronous machines
A Principleofrotatingmagnetic field,Constructionalfeatures, CO2, CO6
cylindricalrotor synchronousmachine, Salient pole, generated EMF,
equivalent circuit and phasordiagram, armature reaction, voltage
