Report On Universal Human Values
Human Values :-
Human values are the core values that make up our personality and define how we
act in life. These values are very important as they make up who we are and are what guide
us through life. The values that we hold determine who we want to be as well as how we
live our lives and the decisions that we make on an everyday basis. Without these values,
our lives would become chaotic and there would be no meaning behind any of the things
that we do or say. The importance of human values is that it provides an understanding of
what people find to be important in their lives. There are many different aspects of human
values. For example, integrity, morality, and benevolence are all aspects of human values.
Character :-
Character determines one’s thoughts and actions. Good character is the existence of
intrinsic motivation to do what is good according to the highest standards of behavior in
every situation. Good character must have three aspects, namely moral knowledge, moral
feelings, and moral behaviour.
Examples of good character traits or positive personality traits that are desirable in oneself or
others include:
“The purpose of all the major religious traditions is not to construct big temples on the
outside, but to create temples of goodness and compassion inside, in our hearts.” -Dalai
Lama
Love is a deep feeling of affection and attachment towards someone. Compassion is a
sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. The Dalai Lama’s
words highlight the fundamental role of love and compassion in human life.
Love and compassion are our necessities. We can never classify them as our luxuries.
It is only because of love and compassion that have helped us to remain alive despite
all the hurdles of life. You cannot call love to be as it is if there was no compassion.
Therefore, without these two emotions, humans would have remained isolated from
one another.
When we try to understand the pain of others and how they are feeling in the painful
situation, then we try to help them. If not more, we at least don’t try to increase their
problems.
Compassion and love are the two emotions that deprive us from our selfishness. In
today’s world, people have become so busy in their own lives that they fail to notice
the sufferings of others. It is essential to awake those raw emotions and instincts
among ourselves that would ultimately shape us to be the better version of ourselves.
1. If you don’t feel real love for yourself yet, act as if.
Act lovingly toward yourself and do things that nurture you, make you stronger, and make
you proud of who you are and how you live your life. Exercising, meditating, helping others
freely, and eating a healthy diet work really well for me. Practice progress, not perfection.
2. When you feel hurt by someone else, remind yourself that they are just
like you.
They hurt, feel fear, have insecurities, and feel the need to defend and protect themselves.
They are no different than you and me.
At times, we all react to the programming in our minds. As you commit to feeling
unconditional love and compassion for yourself and others, you will begin to transform the
programming in your brain. All you need is awareness. Just be aware.
3. Remember, others are on their path just like you are on yours.
You are both just doing the best you can.
5. Turn within and ask your higher knowing to show you where you lack
integrity, love, trust, compassion, forgiveness, and acceptance.
Then ask yourself to heal.
Be patient with the process. Sometimes small shifts happen over time. Allowing your own
process to unfold is an act of love in and of itself.
Demonstration : Truth
Introduction :
What is the concept of Satya truth ?
The word Satya (Truth) is derived from Sat, which means 'being'. Nothing is or exists in
reality except Truth. That is why Sat or Truth is perhaps the most important name of God. In
fact it is more correct to say that Truth is God, than to say that God is Truth.
Preparation :
1. All you need are some small pieces of paper, big enough for a single
sentence. I use a guillotine to chop up some A4 paper as shown
below:
2. Begin by writing some words and phrases on the board before the lesson
or while students check homework.
3. Students make some sentences in pairs that are true about themselves
using the phrases. This is a quick speaking activity to give them ideas for
the game. Then, divide the class into groups of four or five, ensuring
students are not with their pairs.
How to play :
Play a demo round of the game with a student from each group, giving
them a small piece of paper each. Pick a phrase on the board and say that
you’re going to write a true sentence about yourself using the phrase. The
other players have to write a sentence using the same phrase that seems
like you wrote it.
Write your sentence and collect the sentences from each group. Ask
students to watch and listen carefully as you shuffle the sentences and
then read them.
Afterwards, read the sentences and ask students to think about which
sentence they think you wrote. Read them again, this time saying a
number before each one, and ask students to write down the number of
the sentence they think is yours.
(e.g. “One: ‘over the last two weeks I’ve been working really hard.’ Two:
‘I’ve been to the cinema…”).
Now it’s time to work out the points. Students reveal their numbers and
they get a point for choosing my sentence, which was “Over the last two
weeks I’ve been very busy.” Then, they get a point if another student
guessed that their sentence was written by you. Students therefore get
points by guessing correctly and by writing sentences that fool the other
players.
Non-Violence (Ahimsa) :
Ahimsa means following non-violence in action , speech and even in the mind.
One can hurt a person in three ways namely , by deeds, by words or by though !
All three forms of hurting are not good and one should avoid these.
Role Play:
Once upon a time there was a man who was against war. He got many people excited about
his mission and built a large organization to speak out against the war. Eventually people got
tired and gave up on him and the mission. He ended up standing outside the capital with an
anti-war poster all alone.
One day, a passerby, noticing the lone protestor , walked up to him and asked him in a
chiding voice: “Do you really think you’re going to change the world?”
The man replied: “No, but I hope by showing up, the world will not change me.”
Conclusion :
Is it always good not to let the world change one or is it perhaps sometimes more courageous
and even essential that we be changed by the world?
The Power Of Non-Violence-
Once ,when Gandhi was young , he saw two boys fighting. Instead of joining in or
encouraging them, he stepped in and calmly asked them to stop.
He explained that fighting only creates more problems and that kindness and understanding
are stronger than fists. From this moment , Gandhi believed in the power of non-violence and
practiced it throughout his life.
