Good Day Everyone, we are the group 1 and we are assigned to discuss all about the physical self.

To
begin our agenda for today is to discuss all the topics underlying our self, like what is mentioned earlier,
our physical self, our biological self and lastly our sexual self. So I would like everyone to pay attention
because there are hidden words in the following slides and there would be a prize if someone would
collect all complete hidden words.

Before anything else let us reflect in this question. Do you really know yourself? If I would ask all of you,
are all the skills, capabilities and personalities that you know you HAVE is really all that? For us humans,
the question of whether or not we truly know ourselves can be a complex one. After all, we are complex
living things, we have wide range of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Us humans are also not static
beings, and our sense of self can change over time as we learn and grow. However through this process,
we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our motivations, and our values. This can involve
asking questions like "What do I believe in?" or "What are my strengths and weaknesses?" and reflecting
on our own experiences and emotions.

So to start our main topic for today, let us then discuss what are the ideas behind our Physical selves,
starting on what is the true definition of The Physical Self.

According with Shavelson et. The perception and assessment of one's physical ability and looks are all
parts of one's physical self. On the other hand, the definition of physical self used in the study by Fox and
Corbin was the perception and assessment of physical self-worth, such as physical attractiveness and
fitness.

Let us reflect on this question “Am I beautiful?”. If we would answer this question to ourselves I would
certainly believe that most of us would agree. I mean who would not want to be beautiful and
handsome?. However, like what others would say, we live in a society. That is why we would then ask the
question “ do people find me attractive?”. We would reassure ourselves that everybody would agree
with us and that they would think the same as we do to our physical appearances. Knowing that, we
must live up to the standards of the society and therefore further ask ourselves the question “What are
things I can do to develop and enhance my physical features?”

These questions concerning the physical self, which embodies one’s appearance, what one sees in the
mirror and what often triggers a person’s first impression of another

So let us take a look a thought example of a scenario. One day, a teenager was invited to a family reunion
outing which in this scenario is in a beach with their parents and other personal relatives. This teenager,
knowing himself knows that he had exceptionally gained weight over the past few years because of
physical inactivity. Few days had passed and the day for the reunion had arrived. These relatives, after
many years were at last was going to meet him however not like what he was expecting. His aunts and
uncles, cousins and nephews were pointing out and somewhat insulting him for his gain of weight. Now,
what and how do you think will the teenager react? Will he be angry? Sad? Ashamed? Nevertheless of
his emotions I think all of us would agree that the one thing that will come to his mind after hearing
these statements is that he would re-evaluate his physical appearances and examine his body image. I
know this is a toxic trait of us Filipinos since after all, physical attributes affect our overall well-being and
self-esteem. However, with this scenario, he might think that he should start a new exercise routine and
try to assess his physical self. He may be tracking his weight, body measurements, and fitness progress to
see changes over time. This shows that we strive for the standards of beauty. Through this process, the
person is gaining a better understanding of their physical self and working towards personal health and
fitness goals.

As we all know

In understanding our physical selves, we must first identify how and why these features are dominant to
us individuals. Why are we so unique? And why do we have different personalities and preferences

These questions are answered by our biological blueprint, which is encoded in an organism's DNA, plays
a critical role in determining an individual's physical self. DNA provides the instructions for building and
maintaining an organism's structure and functions, including its physical characteristics, such as height,
weight, body shape, and facial features.

For example, certain genes are responsible for determining an individual's eye color, hair color, and skin
color. Other genes can influence an individual's susceptibility to certain diseases or conditions, such as
diabetes, heart disease, or cancer.

Furthermore, the biological blueprint also influences an individual's physical abilities, such as strength,
endurance, and coordination. For instance, genes can affect muscle development, metabolism, and
oxygen utilization, which can influence an individual's athletic performance.

Overall, the biological blueprint provides the foundation for an individual's physical self, but
environmental factors, such as diet, exercise, and exposure to toxins, can also influence an individual's
physical development and health.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONING
Environmental conditioning is the process by which an individual's external factors and physical
environment influence their development and behavior.

1. Family can be a significant environmental conditioning factor for an individual. Family members,
particularly parents or caregivers, are often the primary socializing agents for children, and they can
shape an individual's attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors through modeling and direct instruction. Family
can also impact an individual's physical and mental health, as well as their social and emotional well-
being. For example, a supportive and nurturing family environment can promote positive development,
while a dysfunctional or abusive family environment can have negative effects on an individual's overall
well-being.

2. Exercise and physical activity: The environment we live in can have a big impact on our physical
activity levels. If we live in an area with safe and accessible parks, bike paths, or gym facilities, we may be
more likely to engage in regular exercise. On the other hand, if we live in an area with limited
opportunities for physical activity or unsafe conditions, we may be less likely to exercise regularly.

3. Nutrition: The foods we eat are influenced by our environment. For example, if we live in an area with
limited access to healthy food options, we may be more likely to consume processed or fast food.
Conversely, if we live in an area with access to fresh produce and other healthy options, we may be more
likely to consume a balanced and nutritious diet.

4. Climate: The climate we live in can also impact our physical health. For example, extreme heat or cold
can be dangerous if we are not properly prepared or acclimated to the conditions.

Knowing that we individuals yearn for development and achieving beauty, the physical self is an integral
part of achieving physical well-being. Physical well-being involves taking care of your body through
healthy habits such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and adequate sleep. These habits help to
maintain a healthy weight, build strength, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

So how do we achieve physical well-being? Here are some ways that we can do to develop ourselves
physically.

Eat a balanced and nutritious diet: Eating a diet that is rich in whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean
proteins, and whole grains can help to provide your body with the nutrients it needs to function
properly. We need to eat the right amount of nutrition and combination of food to ensure our health
and sustenance.

Embracing a healthy lifestyle: Identify areas where you want to make changes and set realistic goals for
yourself. This could include goals related to exercise, nutrition, sleep, or stress management. For
example getting adequate sleep is crucial for overall health and well-being. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of
sleep each night. We must also avoid smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and illicit drugs, as they
can have harmful effects on your body.

Maintaining proper hygiene: Achieving proper hygiene is essential for maintaining good health and
preventing the spread of illness.

Manage stress: Chronic stress can have negative effects on your physical and mental health. Find healthy
ways to manage stress, such as meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature.

Being confident: Achieving confidence can take time and effort, but there are steps you can take to build
your self-confidence. We must identify our strengths like making a list of your positive qualities, talents,
and achievements to help build a positive self-image.
