Communication Scenarios
In the following scenarios, think about how personality type
influences communication style. Knowing about your
personality type and understanding opposite types can help to
improve your communication. Your instructor may want to do this
as a group activity
in the classroom.

1. An introvert and an extravert are having an argument.

How is the introvert likely to act?

They are likely to be passive and only counter the

extroverts points

How is the extravert likely to act?

They are likely to bring up new points and be

more aggressive

How can the extravert improve communication?

Ask the introvert for their POV and consider it

How can the introvert improve communication?

Provide more information and be more forward

2. A sensing and an intuitive type are on a date.

What is the sensing person likely to talk about?

The sensing person is likely to focus on concrete,
tangible details and experiences, like specific
observations about their surroundings (e.g., the
ambiance of the restaurant, the taste of the food, or the
music playing).
What is the intuitive type likely to talk about?

Less concrete things like future goals or aspirations.

3. A thinking type and a feeling are dating.

When there are problems in the relationship, how is the thinking type likely to
approach the problem?

The thinking type is likely to look for a practical solution to the issue, trying to fix it

How will the feeling type approach the problem?

The feeling type will likely prioritize the wellbeing of both

partners over the issue

How can the thinking type improve communication?

Validate their partner’s emotions even if they prioritize logic

How can the feeling type improve communications?

Clearly state their feelings and do not assume that the other
will understand

4. A judging type and a perceptive type are married. The judging type likes to keep
the house neat and orderly. The perceptive type likes creative disorder. How can
they resolve this conflict?

They can dedicate spaces of the house to themselves and organise those how they like
