Ch-1 Creating Charts in MS Excel (class vii)

Answer the following questions.

1. What is a chart? Why are charts useful?


A chart is a pictorial representation of data in a workbook.
Charts are useful because it helps us to compare and analyze data and observe patterns and trends in
it. It also helps us to see the relationship between different parts of the data.
2. List some common types of charts.
Some of the most commonly used charts are column chart, line chart, pie chart, bar chart, area chart
and XY scatter chart.
3. What is a pie chart? Write the steps to draw a pie chart.
Pie chart is used to plot the data for a single data series. Each data point is represented by one slice of
the circular pie chart. The size of each slice is proportional to the value it represents, so all the data
points taken together make a complete circular pie chart.
Steps:-
 Select the data for which the chart has to be created.
 Click the Insert tab.
 Click on the pie button in the Charts group and then select a chart from the drop down menu.
The chart appears on the worksheet.

4. Write the steps involved in modifying the labels and titles of a chart.
Steps to modify the labels and titles:
 Click on the chart to select it.
 On the Layout tab, click on the Chart Title or the Data Labels button from the Labels group.
A drop-down menu appears. Select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu.
 Change the Chart Title or the Data Labels and press the Enter key.

5. Write the steps required to change the data included in a chart.


Steps to change the data included in a chart:
 Click on the chart to select it.
 Then, click on the Select Data button from the Data group of the Design tab of the Ribbon. A
Select Data Source dialog box appears. Make the required changes in it.
 Click on the OK button. Changes are reflected in the chart.
6. Write the steps to copy a chart from MS Excel to MS Word.
Steps to copy a chart from MS Excel to MS Word:
 Click on the chart to select it.
 Go to the Home tab and click on the Copy button from the clipboard group to select it.
 Open the MS Word document where the chart has to be copied.
 Click on the Paste button from the Clipboard group of the Home tab to get the copy of the
chart there.

Explain the differences between the following

X-Axis Y-Axis
