French Present Tense Regular - RE Verbs

French, all
Verbs are ‘doing’ or ‘action’ words. verbs end in ER,
When you learn a verb in French, you always have to learn IR or RE in the
something called the infinitive. In English, the infinitive usually infinitive.
starts with ‘to’, e.g. to run, to walk, to jump.

There are lots of regular verbs in French that end in RE, e.g. répondre (to reply),
attendre (to wait) and perdre (to lose).

To form an RE verb in the present Remember, you always need to use the subject
tense, the first thing you have to do pronouns in French:
is cross off the RE!
je/j’ (I)
répondre attendre perdre
tu (you - singular informal)
You then add these endings:
il/elle (he/she/it)
s, s, -, ons, ez, ent.
nous (we)

vous (you - plural or singular formal)


Look at these examples:
ils/elles (they - masculine or
mixed/feminine)

répondre attendre perdre

je réponds j’attends je perds

tu réponds tu attends tu perds

il/elle répond il/elle attend il/elle perd

nous répondons nous attendons nous perdons

vous répondez vous attendez vous perdez
