Act 1: The Prosperity of Job

Narrator: In the land of Uz, there lived a man named Job. He was blameless and
upright, fearing God and shunning evil. Job was blessed with seven sons, three
daughters, and great wealth, making him the greatest man in the east.

Job: (Addressing his children) My sons and daughters, let us sanctify ourselves and
offer burnt offerings to the Lord, lest any of you have sinned in your hearts.

Narrator: Job continually offered sacrifices on behalf of his family, fearing lest they
had sinned.

Scene 1: Heavenly Dialogue

Satan: (Addressing God) I have been roaming the earth.

God: Have you considered my servant Job, blameless and upright?

Satan: Job fears you only because you have blessed him. Remove your protection,
and he will curse you.

God: Behold, all that he has is in your power, but do not harm him.
Scene 2: The Tests Begin

Narrator: On a day when Job’s children were feasting, messengers brought news of
calamity. Raiding parties had stolen his livestock and slain his servants. A great wind
had collapsed the house where his children feasted, killing them all.

Job: (Tearing his clothes and falling to the ground) Naked I came from my mother’s
womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be
the name of the Lord.

Job’s Wife: Curse God and die!

Job: Shall we receive good from the Lord and not evil?

Scene 3: Job’s Affliction

Narrator: Satan, returning to the Lord, receives permission to afflict Job’s body.

Satan: (Smoting Job with painful boils) Now will he curse you to your face.

Job: (Sitting among ashes, scraping his sores) Shall we indeed accept good from God
and not adversi
Act 2: Job’s Lamentation and His Friends’ Consolation

Scene 1: Job’s Lament

Job: (Mourning his plight) Let the day of my birth be darkness, and let not God
regard it from above. Why is light given to him who is in misery, and life to the bitter
of soul?

Scene 2: Job’s Friends Arrive

Narrator: Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar come to comfort Job. They sit with him in
silence for seven days, seeing his great suffering.

Eliphaz: (Breaking the silence) Should one who is blameless perish? Those who
plow iniquity reap the same.

Bildad: If you are pure and upright, God will surely restore you.

Zophar: Repent of your sin, and God will bless you again.

Job: (Responding to his friends’ accusations) Miserable comforters are you all! If I
have sinned, it is my concern alone.
Job: (Addressing his friends) Be silent and listen to my reasoning. Will you speak
falsely for God? Is it right to show partiality to him? Let me speak, and whatever may
come upon me, so be it. Even if God slays me, I will still trust in him.

Act 3: Job’s Despair and Elihu’s Intervention

Scene 1: Job’s Despair

Job: (Continuing his lament) Why do the wicked prosper while I suffer? I long to
confront God and plead my case.

Job: (Addressing God) How many sins have I committed? Show me my

transgressions. Why do you hide your face from me and treat me as your enemy?
You write bitter things against me and hold me accountable for the sins of my youth.

Narrator: Job expresses his anguish and despair, feeling as if he is consumed like
rotten wood and his life is like moth-eaten clothing.

Scene 2: Elihu’s Speech

Narrator: Elihu, a young man, enters the conversation.

Elihu: God speaks to humans through suffering, teaching them humility and
repentance. Heed the lesson, Job, for God is just and merciful.
Narrator: Despite his suffering, Job resolves to maintain his trust in God and seek
understanding.

Job: (Declaring his resolve) Though my circumstances are dire, I will maintain my
trust in God. I will not hide from him, but I seek understanding and justice.

Scene 3: God’s Answer

Narrator: In response to Job’s plea, God appears in a whirlwind, challenging Job’s

understanding and revealing the depths of his wisdom.

Act 4: The Divine Encounter and Job’s Restoration

Scene 1: God’s Rebuke

God: (Challenging Job) Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Can you command the dawn or control the Behemoth and Leviathan?

Job: (Humbled) I spoke without understanding. I repent in dust and ashes.

Scene 2: Job’s Restoration

Narrator: God rebukes Job’s friends and restores Job’s fortunes. He blesses Job with
twice as much as before.
Job: (Receiving God’s blessings) I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but
now my eyes see you. I repent in dust and ashes.

Act 5: Conclusion

Narrator: Job’s suffering is transformed into a testament of faith and humility. His
friends are forgiven, and Job’s faithfulness is rewarded. The Lord’s ways are mysterious,
but his justice is sure.
