ASSIGNMENT-2 Max Marks = 50

Due Date: Monday, 24 June 2024 (11:00 PM)


Submission Method: Soft copy to be uploaded on LMS within the deadline
NOTE: Other methods of submission may
not be accepted, except with prior approval of the instructor

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. You may work on this assignment either individually or in groups of two members each. Only
one submission is required from each group, mentioning names and IDs of both members.

2. You are not allowed to share/discuss any portion of your assignment with anyone else in
our class or outside, other than the instructor and the TA

3. You are welcome to use all available resource to develop your concepts, but you are not
allowed to use the web (or similar) resources related to the specific solutions of the given
problems

4. Upload a Single Excel file, having each question on a separate worksheet.


Name your files using the following format:
A2<underscore>Your 8-digit ID e.g. A2_25110888_25110999

Name the five worksheets of your single Excel file as following:


Testimony , Q.1 , Q.2 , Q.3 , Q.4

NOTE: Submissions not following the above file /worksheets naming format may result in a
significant loss of marks.

5. The submitted assignment should be your own original work, and should not be shared with any
other student in our class or anyone outside our class, during the semester and beyond.

You also need to provide this testimony (along with your Full Names) on the first worksheet of your submitted
Excel File.

NOTE: Your assignment will not be graded without this testimony.


Consider the following Linear Program (LP):

MAX Z = 3x1 + 4x2


subject to:
7x1 + 3x2 ≤ 28 (Constraint- A)
2x1 - 4x2 ≥ - 48 (Constraint- B)
x1 ≤ 3x2 (Constraint- C)
4x1 + 4x2 ≤ 32 (Constraint- D)
x1 ≥ 0 , x2 ≥ 0

Q. 1 Use the Graphical method to obtain the Optimal Solution for the above LP.
Clearly mention the exact value of the Optimal Solution, and value of Objective Function (Z).
Show complete working. (10 marks)

Q. 2 Apply the Exhaustive Enumeration method to obtain the Optimal Solution for the above LP.
Show complete working. (10 marks)

Q. 3 Apply Simplex Method to obtain the Optimal Solution for the above LP.
Show complete working for the iterations. (20 marks)

Q. 4 Evaluate the pros and cons of each of the above three methods in: (10 marks)

(a) obtaining the optimal solution for the given LP

(b) obtaining the optimal solution for any LP in general
