ARAMIS, BAISEMEAUX AND PHILIPPA – THE BASTILLE

N: the year is 1661, in France. Louisa XIV (fourteen) is the Queen of France. Louisa is a young,
powerful and clever woman, but she isn’t a good Queen. Aramis is the bishop of Vannes, and
he knows that the people in France deserve a better queen. Aramis is in the Bastille prison, and
he talks to the governor, Baisemeaux.

(Baisemeaux is sitting, Aramis is standing)

A: I need to see this prisoner

B: please follow me, bishop.

(Baisemeaux stands and they leave)

------------------------------------------------------

(They are at some door)

A: I must talk to him alone.

B: as you wish, bishop.

(Aramis walks in)

---------------------------------------------------------

(Philippa lying on the ground, Aramis comes to talk to him)

P: what do you want?

A: why are you here?

P: I don’t know. I lived for some years in a house with a nurse and a teacher… they took care of
me. When I was a teenager, some people came and they killed the nurse and teacher, and
took me to this prison. I’m innocent!

A: Philippa, do you know this woman?

(Aramis shows a picture of Louisa to him)

P: it’s me!

A: no, it’s not. This woman is Louisa, the Queen of France. But she is a bad Queen, she doesn’t
give food to the people, she spends all the money with parties in the Palace of Versailles. I
want you to be the Queen, Philippa; you will be a great queen!

-------------------------------------------------------------

N: Aramis revealed that Louisa and Philippa were twin sisters, but their father sent Philippa
away, because he didn’t want that the two sisters fought for the Crown. So Aramis made a plot
to exchange the two sisters. First, he took Philippa from the Bastille to the Palace. Later, he
kidnapped Queen Louisa and put her on Philippa’s place in prison. When she got there, Queen
Louisa screamed that she was the Queen of France, but nobody believed her, they thought she
was crazy.

N: this way, Philippa could rule forever, being a good queen to the people, but Monsieur
Fouquet, the minister of Finance, found out about the plan and he was loyal to the true
Queen. Aramis tried to convince him to let Philippa in the throne, but it didn’t work.

ARAMIS AND FOUQUET

A: There are two Queens, Louisa is in the Bastille.

F: But this is a crime!!

A: Louisa was a bad queen, and Philippa will be a great queen!

F: You are a traitor!! I won’t kill you, but I’ll go to the bastille and release Louisa! Run away
forever or you will die!

N: Monsieur Fouquet ran to the Bastille to release Queen Louisa. After that, Fouquet told the
truth about Aramis to Louisa, and she was very angry. The queen gave an order to his
musqueteers to find and kill Aramis.

-------------------------------------------------------

PHILIPPA, THE QUEEN, FOUQUET AND LOUISA.

(Philippa is kissing the queen mother’s hand)

P: It’s good to see you again, mother.

(Louisa and Fouquet arrive in the room)

(The queen is in shock)

L: we have a traitor here! Where is Aramis? He brought this fake queen to the palace!

(Louisa approaches the queen)

L: Mother, don’t you recognize your daughter?

P: Mother, don’t you recognize your daughter?

Q: What is happening? I see two of my daughters here! Who is the real queen?

F: You are right, my Queen, there is only one true queen regent in this room.

(Louisa is pointing to Philippa)

L: She was arrested for many years, her face has never seen the sun, look how pale she is! I’m
the true queen!

Q: oh my God!!!

F: Come with me, young woman, you will go back to where you belong: The Bastille!

L: Put an Iron mask on her face! Nobody must see her face ever again!

N: So, after this revelation, Philippa, that was an innocent woman, came back to the Bastille for
the rest of her days. Louisa continued to be the bad Queen to the French people that she was.
