Week 2 Part 2: Google Slides

Google Slides is a web-based presentation software that allows users to create, edit, and
present slideshows. It’s part of the Google Workspace suite and can be used to create
professional presentations either from scratch or by using templates. One of its strengths
is real-time collaboration, allowing multiple users to work on the same presentation
simultaneously.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
1. Navigate the Google Slides interface.
2. Create presentations from scratch or using templates.
3. Add and format text, images, and multimedia.
4. Use transitions and animations.
5. Present slides effectively during meetings.

1. Navigating the Google Slides Interface

● Menu Bar: Located at the top, it includes options like "File," "Edit," "View,"
"Insert," "Format," and "Tools."
● Slides Pane: On the left side of the screen, it displays a list of your slides in
thumbnail view.
● Toolbar: Positioned beneath the menu bar, it contains shortcuts for common actions
like adding text, inserting images, and formatting tools.
● Main Slide Canvas: The large area in the center where you can edit the slide
content.
● Speaker Notes: Located at the bottom, this section is for adding notes to guide your
presentation.

2. Creating Presentations from Scratch or Using Templates

(e.g., professional, educational, business, etc.). To access templates, click on the
“Template Gallery” when you open Google Slides.
● Renaming Your Presentation: Click on “Untitled presentation” at the top left and
give your presentation a meaningful title.

3. Adding and Formatting Text, Images, and Multimedia

● Inserting Text Boxes: Click on “Insert” → “Text box” or use the text box icon in
the toolbar. Position the text box on the slide and type your content.
● Formatting Text: Use the toolbar to change the font type, size, color, and
alignment. Apply bullet points or numbered lists as needed.

Inserting Images
Adding Images: Go to “Insert” → “Image.”. You can upload images from your computer,
search the web, or insert from Google Drive/Photos.

Embedding Multimedia
Adding Videos: Select “Insert” → “Video.” You can search for YouTube videos directly
from Slides, or upload from your Google Drive.

Adding Audio

enhance your slides.
