Catia 3

The document provides a step-by-step guide for using CATIA software to design a cup and create drafting views from 3D parts. It includes instructions for generating pockets, using edge fillets, and creating a handle with a spline curve. Additionally, it covers how to set up a drafting environment and generate various views from a 3D part using the software's tools.

LAB 2.

CATIA HELP DOCUMETNS AND SCKETCHER

Step 25. Generate the same pocket in another direction.

Step 26. Use the Edge Fillet function to make smooth connections between the adjacent faces.

2.3 Example: Cup Design

Step 1. Go to the Part Design workbench

Step 2. Highlight XY plane and go to the Sketch workbench.
Step 3. On XY plane draw a circle which is centered at the original point, and the diameter is 20 mm. Get
out of the Sketch workbench.

Step 4. Click on the Pad icon . In the dialog box choose Dimension and change the value of length to
20 mm

Step 5. We are going to use the shelling function to generate the cup. Shelling a geometry means
emptying it, while keeping a given thickness on its sides.

Step 6. Click on the Shell icon . The value of Default inside thickness is 1 mm and the value of
Default outside thickness is 0 mm. For Face to remove, we choose the top face. Click on OK.

Step 7. Highlight the underside. Choose Chamfer icon , and set the Length 1 as 1mm and the Angle
as 45 degrees.

We are going to draw a handle.

Step 8. First of all, make a sketch on YZ plane.

Step 9. Click on the Spline icon to draw a spline curve. The shape of this curve is not very important
here. Make sure the starting point and the end point is outside of the part body.

Step 10. Go back to Part Design workbench. Using the Plane function to make a reference plane

Step 11. In the dialog box, choose Normal to curve for Plane type. For Curve, we choose the spline
curve we draw. Then, choose the starting point for the Point.

Step 12. Then draw a circle on the reference plane we just generated. The diameter is 2mm and the center
is the starting point of the spline curve.

Step 13. Go back to Part Design workbench. Use the Rib function to sweep the circle along the
spline curve to create the handle.

Step 14. Check the option . This option can create material between rib and existing
material and make them connected.

LAB 3. DRAFTING

LAB 3. DRAFTING

Version 5 Generative Drafting is a new generation product that provides users with powerful
functionalities to generate drawings from 3-D parts and assembly definitions.

3.1 An Example

Step 1. Launch CATIA, go to Start, Mechanical Design, and Drafting.

Step 2. The New Drawing dialog box is displayed. From the dialog box, choose ISO for Standard and A0
ISO format for Sheet style, and then click OK. For detailed information about standard, you can
check handbook or go to Standards Administration in the online help documents.

Sketcher Grid

function by clicking on the icon Sketcher Grid from the toolbar (bottom right). Then the
drawing sheet should look like the following figure.

We will learn how to generate various types of views from a 3-D part on the drawing sheet.

Step 4. In order to make sure everyone is working on the same parts, let us use an existing part in an
online help document.
C:\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B15doc\English\online\cfysm_C2\
samples\Drafting\GenDrafting_Part.CATPart

Step 5. Double click on this file. After you open the file in CATIA, there are two windows which show
the Part and Drawing individually.

23
LAB 3. DRAFTING

It is quite incontinent if we switch from one window to the other. Can we show them together at
the same time?

Step 6. Go to Window, and then choose Tile Vertically.

Step 7. Click the Drawing window to activate it.

24
LAB 3. DRAFTING

Step 8. Click on the Front View icon from Views toolbar.

Step 9. In the Part window, select the desired planar surface of the 3-D part.

Step 10. On the sheet, a blue knob appears, as well as a green frame containing a preview of the view to
be created. This knob can allow you to define the location and orientation of the view to be
created, using the blue manipulators: top, bottom, left, right or rotated.

Click on the drawing sheet or at the center of the blue knob to generate the front view.

Step 11. Click the Projection View icon from the Views toolbar (Projections sub-toolbar).

25
LAB 3. DRAFTING

When you move the cursor near the front view, a preview of the view to be created appears. By
default, the projection view is aligned to the front view. As you move the cursor, a preview of the
view to be created appears, as long as you keep the cursor positioned at a possible projection view
location (at the left, right, top or bottom of the red frame). The views are shown below.

Step 12. In this case, since we chose ISO standard, we create the left view here. Click to generate the
view. A progress bar appears while the view is being created.
