15. A man has 532 flower pots. He wants to arrange them in rows such that each row contains 21
flower pots. Find the number of completed rows and how many flower pots are left over.
(P:43-EX:2.1 –Q:2)
Solution:
No. of flower pots (a) = 532
All pots to be arranged in rows & each row to contain 21 flower pots.
Using Euclid’s division algorithm,
a=21q + r
∴ 532 = 21q + r
⇒ 532 = 21 × 25 + 7
∴ Number of completed rows = 25
Number of flower pots left out = 7

16. Solve: x4 – 13x2 +42 = 0 (P:111 Eg:3.29)

Solution: Let x 2 = a
Then, (x 2)2 – 13x2 + 42 =0
a2 -13a + 42 =0
(a-7) (a-6) = 0
we get, a = 7 or 6.
Since a =x 2,
x2 =7 or x2 =6
then we get, x =± √7, x =±√6
∴ the roots are x = ± √7 , ±√6 www.PuduvaiKalvi.com

Order of BA is not defined ( ∵ No. of columns in B & no. of rows in A are not equal.)

18. A relation ‘f’ is defined by f(x)=x 2− 2 , where, x ∈{-2,-1,0,3}

(i) List the elements of f (ii) Is f a function? (P:12 Eg:1.7)
Solution : f(x)=x 2− 2 , where, x ∈{-2,-1,0,3}
(i) f( -2) = (– 2) 2 – 2 = 4-2=2 ;
f( -1) = (-1) 2 – 2 = 1 – 2 = -1
f(0) = (0) 2 -2 =0- 2= -2 ;
f(3) =(3 2)– 2 = 9-2 =7
∴, f= {(-2 ,2) ,(-1 ,-1),(0,-2), (3,7) }
(ii) We note that each element in the domain of f has a unique image. Therefore f is a function.

a = 9, d = 6, l = 183
n= +1 = +1
= + 1 = 29 + 1
n=30
∴ Middle terms are 𝑡ℎ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ( + 1)𝑡ℎ= 15th and 16th term
t15 = a +14d =9+14(6) =9+84 =93
t16 = a + 15d = 9 +15(6) = 9 +90 = 99
∴ The 2 middle terms are 93, 99.

33. Find the sum of all 3 digit natural numbers which are divisible by 9.
First three digit number divisible by 9 is 108.
⇒ a = 108
⇒ d = 9 www.PuduvaiKalvi.com
⇒n=?
⇒ L = 999
Applying the formula: L = a + ( n - 1 ) d , we get,
⇒ 999 = 108 + ( n - 1 ) 9
⇒ 999 - 108 = ( n - 1 ) 9
⇒ 891 = ( n - 1 ) 9
⇒ 891 / 9 = ( n - 1 )
⇒ 99 = ( n - 1 )
⇒ 99 + 1 = n
⇒ 100 = n
Hence the number of terms is 100.
Applying Sum formula we get,

Hence the sum of all three digit natural numbers which are a multiple of 9 is 55,350
